Something about this place being in the basement of a nondescript office building in Annandale makes it seem more authentic! You go down one flight of stairs and into a bright and cheerful restaurant.
Our server was lovely, and prompt and the menu is great. Of all the items you can get, most are also available in a double or triple combo. It's still a ton of food, but at least it's 2 or 3 different items. The servings we saw at other tables were massive!!!
My friend and I wanted to try 5 different things on the menu so we got 2 triple combos. We got the black noodles, the seafood soup, the fried rice, the fried pork, and fried dumplings. ALL were good, several were GREAT!
I found the black noodles (Jjajangmyeon) were good but a little bland in my opinion. The fried rice was very good with a slightly smokey flavor and perfect rice! The dumplings were great, as was the seafood soup (Jjamppong)! The broth was spicy, but also loaded with flavor and there was tons of great seafood in it including clams, mussels, octopus and shrimp.
The fried pork was also delicious, sitting crisp in a sweet and sour sauce.
Finally, the banchan was really nice! pickled radish and some of the best kimchi I have ever had. We asked for more! I know that Kimchi is very subjective, and one man's fav is another man's "meh", but I loved this!
We were there for a late lunch on a saturday afternoon and the crowd was large and lively. We will...
Read moreNormally, I wouldn't give low rating and I felt compelled to write a review on this restaurant. This was not my first time coming here, and this would be my last time visiting this place. We got the jajangmyun and the seafood soup. From the moment entering this restaurant, it was not welcoming at all. Our server dismeaner was rude by the way she took our orders. We left tip despite the disasifying experience at the restaurant, but the server gave uncomfortable glance to give tip at the end. There was unclealiness feel to the tables as it felt sticky and the floor seems like it was not swept as I saw pile of dust at various areas. Between the jajangmyun and jjampong, jjampong was better tasting. However ,throughout the night, our family felt discomfort from the food. I think the starchyness of the noodles was the cause of it, but other Chinese Korean restaurants we have been to didn't leave a discomforting feeling after the visit. Jajangmyun was disappointing, and felt that it tasted similar to store bought instant jajangmyun. Jajangmyun and jjampong are staple food for Chinese korean restaurants, but maybe other food options are...
Read moreI will NEVER EVER order from this place ever again. I ordered black bean noodles and sweet and spicy shrimp (ggan poong shrimp). Here are the reasons why I will never order from here again.
They do not devein their shrimp. I feel like when a shrimp is not deveined, it has that very unpleasant earthy taste to it. I strongly feel that restaurants MUST devein their shrimp. If you’re that lazy to the point where you dont even want to devein your shrimp, then you might as well close your business and cook for your family only for free. Also, they fried the shrimp with tails on. Lazy much? Lastly, they were extremely chewy because they were over cooked. This is just my opinion but this was the worst food I’ve ever eaten.
Black bean noodles tasted burnt. Now, I know the black noodles must be cooked on high fire to give it that smoky taste but this one, they went way too far with this smoky flavor because it tasted burnt. Not only that, veggies in the sauce were over cooked.
Conclusion: If I were you, I’d stick to Jang Won Ban Jim or Joong Hwa Won. NEVER...
