Mata’s II Greek Pizza & Grinders — Restaurant in Anniston

I was so excited to come to this place, BUT it turned out as the worst experience ever. So many people told me about how good their pizzas were and how much they love this place so, being new in town, I decided to give it a try mostly because I like supporting local businesses. So I odered a gyro, cheese garlic bread, baklava and water simple order, reasonable prices, good...My star and thanks for the one worker who came out to clean tables, greeted me and asked how we were, he listened about my situation and rushed to the kitchen to check what was going on... 45 minutes after I ordered I'm called for my "order" and I get the worst gyro Ive ever had and Im told the other things in my order will be ready soon... So after 15 minutes more I just got up and asked for my money back because I never got any of the other items. To be fair honest, it was Not Busy, they had very few customers so there was no reason for the wait. The place is dirty and the kitchen is very far from hygenic, opened salad bowls in the fridge, gloves touching everything and then food.... Y’all, I wasn’t going to post this but I decided yes I was because things like this should be spoken on! I have been supporting Mata's Greek Pizza & Grinders for yearsssssss, literally since I was a child my mom used to take us there ALL THE TIME! Well today I go to grab me a salad before heading to the hospital and THEY WERE VERY RUDE! I was told I was wasting their time and I just want to know howwwwww? When I’m patronizing y’all and giving you my money! They were rude and racist as hell! I will not be supporting them again. AND THE SO CALL MANAGER WAS THE RUDEST PRICK! He hung up on me and slammed the window in my face. He spoke so nasty to me! You guys should’ve saw the way he was looking at me and heard how he spoke to me, I recognized that spirit SO FAST! Same traditional taste as always, Patrick is the same owner, love him. The atmosphere has changed a bit since moving to the new building so the interior of the place feels a lot more like a fast food joint. I REALLY miss the old place right across the street, it was insanely cool with their lighting and jukebox but the food is still just as great and so is the customer service.

Update: I wrote this review 6 years ago and this is still my absolute favorite restaurant ever. The food is still out of this world and so is the service. My favorites are their Mata's special pizza, chicken Alfredo pasta, Mata's special grinders (the tastiest sandwich you'll ever eat), even their salad is amazing with their Italian salad dressing which is the absolute best, hands down. We always call in our order ahead of time and their drive thru can take a bit of time to get through if there's a long line but it's always worth it. I don't think I've ever had even close to a negative experience from these guys or their food. Long...
