This place is absolutely HORRIBLE!!! The meat I was sold was cold as if it was taken out of the refrigerator and it also tasted old.
The guy that made all 4 of my dinners told me and the guy that was working the cash register that he sauced all my meat. I spent $88.36 at this place and I got un-sauced, old-cold meat. I called immediately after discovering my order was a disaster. They never answered the phone. The next day I called and the guy that answered the phone told me that he was the “Oldest Son” of the owner.
This guy was extremely uncaring, unprofessional and beyond rude. This guy made a million excuses why my entire order was a disaster and NEVER ONCE OFFERED AN APOLOGY. He refused to hear me out and continued to talk over me while elevating his voice to the point that it escalated into an argument then he disconnected the call.
I called back and he answered the phone yelling again. I asked to speak with someone else preferably the owner and he said “YOU ARE GOING TO GET THE SAME RESPONSE NO MATTER WHO YOU TALK TO!!!”
He then offered me a cup of sauce for my trouble the next time I visit their establishment.
I felt so disrespected and disgusted.
I explained to him that I didn’t need his handout!!! What I EXPECTED was PROFESSIONALISM and an APOLOGY but obviously that’s too far-fetched for this establishment.
Apple Valley is a small town that deserves good professional businesses. I’m one that believes in spending my dollars where I want it to count and that’s why I spend in my town/city of Apple Valley.
I support & encourage good businesses and I will be forwarding my complaint to the Town Hall as well as Better Business Bureau because this young man claiming to be the “Owners Oldest Son”, behavior was totally unacceptable.

SERVICE Ordered in person and it's clear their system isn't designed well enough to accommodate both online and in person orders. The chef-owner got mixed up pretty quickly in terms of first in first out. Then when I inquired about the extensive wait compared to other in-person customers the chef-owner berated me in front of everyone and then had the audacity to tell me I was causing a scene, for asking a question that he reacted badly to a simple question. I never once was disrespectful or raised my voice.I has to simple question. And the owner was loud and aggressive in his response. Don't own a business if you're not cut out to handle customer service simultaneously with cooking. And this is a friendly f y I even tipped 20% ahead of time and this was still the service I received from the chef owner anyways. Smh not cool.
FOOD The quality of food was certainly not up to par in my humble opinion. I'm from the south where soul food is sacred. This was a great value version attempt at that. When the food is smothered in BBQ sauce is uallt a sign the food needs a pick-me-up. Usually the seasoning and cook time should speak for itself, sauce is an extra, not a necessity. Greens were super salty, same concept applies. Mac n cheese was fortunately on point 👌.
Overall I believe their positive reviews are derived from the simple fact that this establishment holds the monopoly within this high desert area as there is not many choices and options for soul food and barbecue within this region.
If you're well accustomed and acquainted to quality southern style barbecue and soul food this place will disappoint you unless they start making necessary changes.

I came across this place while browsing DoorDash—my Asian wife was craving grilled beef or pork. It was a bit too far for delivery, but the menu caught my attention, so I called in and placed an order. When I arrived, my food was ready and waiting. One of the guys told me, “Hey, go ahead and check to make sure everything’s good.” Sure enough, they had given me greens instead of beans by mistake—but they fixed it right away, no fuss. We even ended up having a great little conversation while I was there.
I didn’t dine in, but the vibe inside had that unmistakable southern hospitality I’ve experienced in places like Memphis and Atlanta—warm, relaxed, and welcoming.
Once I got home and dug into the food, I was genuinely impressed. Everything was well-prepared and the portions were generous. The brisket had a beautiful smoke ring, that deep, smoky flavor, and just the right kick of black pepper for a little zing and the ribs were the type that remind you a time, taking you back to a certain place. You can tell that these folks know what they’re doing.
I’ve traveled a lot and eaten all over, and I can honestly say these folks are putting out a top-notch product. It’s a small, out-of-the-way spot, but the food speaks for itself. I wouldn’t be surprised if they expand into a more central location one day—they’ve got what it takes to draw a crowd.
Everyone I met was friendly, courteous, and clearly proud of their work. They weren’t just cooking—they were enjoying what they do, and it showed in both the service and the food.
No complaints. Just great food, good people, and an experience worth sharing. Highly...
