Are you ready for a multisensory, dare I say, exciting dining experience? Look no further than the hibachi tables at Osaka!
If you’ve never experienced hibachi dining, you’ll be seated as a U-shaped table that surrounds a large rectangular cooking surface. Each table seats about 10 people, and you will likely be seated with strangers. Not to worry, the place has got lots of energy, and at dinner time is quite loud. There are multiple hibachi combos including vegetarian, chicken, steak, filet mignon, and multiple kinds of seafood. Initially, especially at dinner, you may experience a little sticker shock, as most hibachi dinners range between $24 and $35 (lunchtime prices are less, and slightly smaller portions). Fried rice is an additional four dollar up-charge. Here’s why I think it’s worth it: the serving sizes are very generous, and at dinner come with soup and a small salad. We always leave with a robust take-home box or are stuffed silly. AND…
You have a chef, prepare your meal right in front of you! The chefs are very high energy, entertaining, funny, and exceptionally skilled. It really is like dinner and a show. They tell jokes, will flip vegetables directly into your mouth, make a fire volcano with onion rings (feel the heat!) and do a number of tricks with their spatulas and knives. It’s real fun.
None of this would matter much if the food wasn’t any good. Good news: the food is great! It doesn’t get any fresher than cooking surface straight to your plate. During various visits I have sampled the vegetables, chicken, steak, shrimp, and scallops. All of them are exceptionally tasty.
The decor is charming with a transformative Japanese feel in Apple Valley. As soon as you walk in the door, you forget the strip mall parking lot instantly.
Something else you should know that may or may not appeal to you: it is very loud. They definitely go for a party like atmosphere. Whenever it is someone’s announced birthday, they bring out a big ridiculous mascot head, plunk it on the birthday person and crank up some raucous birthday music, and turn on the disco lights. I’m not kidding. That actually happens. And it happens frequently. During our most recent visit, there were at least four separate birthday songs that got fired off in an hour. It’s fun, but if you’re looking for a contemplative, classy dining experience… You might have to look elsewhere.
All in all, Osaka hibachi is a loud, fun, entertaining, and delicious...
Read moreWow where do i start....? My family an I went here on a Tuesday afternoon shortly after my moms passing to honor one of her favorite restaurants. So we walk in "its dead as can be" pretty much nobody in there. The host greets us and ask what we will be having? Sushi? Dine-in? or Hibachi? We reply 5 out of the 8 of use will be eating hibachi the rest will do sushi. The host said "oh sorry for hibachi everybody has to be eating it".....? My jaw just about dropped. i thought to myself really your going to jeopardize about $200 worth of business just be cause a few people out of our party doesn't want hibachi. So we decide to go to the one in Bloomington, MN which we've never had an issue with ( they are incredible over there "Different owners") Anyways as we walk out of the restaurant the host and manager literally come outside and basically are begging us to come back in. Which made us all feel very awkward. I get into my Aunts Porsche which I'm sure made them feel even more stupid. we have been great customers for years been going to Osaka sense my 12th birthday. Im not sure when it started to go down hill. So i decided to give them another chance just because i did usually enjoy this place, but i go in there and its only me. I just got off work i show up in my business suit. Ask for a table for hibachi and they say No only parties of two can do hibachi...? I just turned around walked out and went to Bloomington, Where i got seated immediately and spent about $35 there loss i guess. Long story short I highly recommended going to the Bloomington Osaka WAY better...
Read moreI made a reservation for my husband's birthday dinner for 8 people (1 hibachi table). We all arrived and checked in for our reservation on time. We were told there were still 4 tables ahead of us, and that we would have to wait. They were unable to give me any estimation on how long that wait would be beyond "minimum of 20 mins". I understand that things happen and things run late sometimes, but when I checked in again after 20 minutes, the hostess rudely tells me that there are still tables ahead of us and that she has no way of knowing how long it will be, and we see people without reservations getting sat before us, our entire group is getting upset. AN HOUR after our reservation (and after multiple tables without reservations being sat), we asked to see the manager. The manager did not apologize, but did seat us. 10 more minutes went by with no server coming to the table. Then some edamame showed up, that we didn't order. Another 5 minutes, still no server. Our entire party walked out. On the way out, a server asked if there was something wrong. I again explained that we waited AN HOUR PAST OUR RESERVATION to even be sat, then waited another 15 minutes and never had a server come by. Another group that had also been waiting over an hour past their reservation overheard this and stated his frustration as well. No one on staff even apologized for the horrible night. We will never be back to this place and our entire party is spreading the word of our terrible...
