I'm a recent transplant from North Carolina via California. Military raised and a proud American citizen. After 30 plus years traveling and meeting people from other countries especially Thailand and Korea alongside German citizens I have tasted the best of other cuisines. And on a regular constant basis, so much so I made dear friends and learned how to prepare multitude of dishes that I continue to make still. Perhaps the Midwest pallet is a bit on the plain side therefore knowing good Chinese from bad is a forgivable mistake but coming from a town where the Chinese community is strong and the dozens of restaurants within a 15/mile radius is thriving and competitive the standards that I have become acquainted with put every Chinese food restaurant that I have tried so far to shame. The pad Thai dinner at a downtown college ave restaurant is lacking in flavor and presentation. The Asian garden buffet near fox river mall is sloppy and unfriendly. The food is generally warm and flavorful, with a solid variety across the menu. Diners can enjoy a salad bar, a dessert area, and self-serve drinks—all included.
Service is efficient, though not particularly personable (as expected in a buffet setting). The main downside: the restaurant could benefit from a thorough deep cleaning—especially the floors, tables, and walls. Overall, a decent, no-frills option for a...
