I’ve been going to Sai Ram ever since they stopped doing the lunch buffet and when the original owners were still there. The lunch buffet was an awesome deal and the food was always delicious. I regret not going there more often when they were still doing it. Anyways, I digress. I’ve gone to Sai Ram a few times now since the new owners took over and I’m glad the food and price is still the same.
The restaurant has a darker atmosphere due to the dim lights and dark colors of the wall. You have the option of booth or table. No bar/bar seating although they do serve alcoholic beverages. The décor is very Indian theme as you would expect and you can enjoy Indian music as you dine in. The restaurant is on the smaller end and be prepared to wait during prime dinner times. Especially on weekends.
I’ve never experienced issues with the wait staff here. They usually get to you in a timely manner, check on you if you have questions about the menu or just to see how everything is going once you get your food. The length it takes to get your food can vary depending on how busy the restaurant is but the wait is no longer than 20-30 minutes for the main course at least. Appetizers and drinks are served pretty quick.
The dish I always get is the chicken makhani or known as butter chicken and comes served with basmati rice. Its tandoori chicken cooked in puree of tomatoes, spices, and other ingredients creating an orange creamy colored sauce. The dish is very aromatic and buttery hence the name. It can be spicy or mild based on your preference but I usually do spicy. Naan is a must when eating here. It compliments any dish and is usually eaten in a traditional Indian meal. It’s so good dipped into the sauce. I’ve tried many of the other dishes as well and you can’t go wrong with anything here really.
They have a variety of Indian beverages and imported Indian beer. They do have domestics and craft beer as well. All of the alcoholic beverages are bottled or can. No beer on tap here. Wine is also on the menu. I’ve had one of the non-alcoholic beverage but I wasn’t a huge fan. It was the mango lassi which I believe is supposed to be a milk shake. However, it was really runny.
Overall, this is definitely a place to try out if you are in the Fox Valley area. The food and staff...
Read moreAlthough the food was very delicious, we had encounter such poor service. As we enter into the restaurant they front lady had counted 5 adult and 2 kids under 2 years old. As two of the adult went to the bathroom before they seated us. They gladly had brought the remain of us to a single table that can one seated 4 people and one high chair. Of course we had told them that we have 5 adults and 2 kids and need one high chair. They had told us that they can not accommodate us. There were two table next to each other that are empty so we ask if we can combine the table together. The young girl who took us to the table asked one other lady and she say no and will not accommodate for us to sit together. I had ask we can take two table and that we don’t need to put it to together. The lady kept shaking her head no to us. Again, my brother in law ask the same question. The lady still shaking her head no. The young girl kept look at the other lady and say yes to us. We finally sat down. The whole time that we were there, the lady never looked at us or acknowledged that we as a customer is there. No sure if that lady is the owner or not but she stands there and watches the room.
It is such a disappointment to see such a great restaurant to such amazing food to had bad customer service.
If you or your family for family friendly restaurants, this is definitely not the place. Sorry to disappoint but they don’t accommodate more than 4 adults at this restaurant.
By far this is one of the worst restaurants customers service that I’ve ever been to. Thank goodness we didn’t had the lady...
Read moreHere is what we ordered: Lassi Chilli Gobi Chicken Biryani Chicken Tandoori
Remarks related to food: Lassi: We were given yogurt and sugar diluted in water as a drink. If we can even call it a lassi, it was the worst I've ever tasted. (This dish gets 0 out of 5)
Chilli Gobi: According to the description, it was "Crispy texture cauliflower with a spicy, sweet and sour taste." But it wasn't crispy at all. (This dish gets 1 out of 5)
Chicken Biryani: The dish consisted of rice and a few (4 to be exact) small pieces of chicken. In terms of taste, this dish gets a 1.5 out of 5. The biryani, however, is one of the few dishes I am very picky about since I feel few people can make it right.
Chicken Tandoori: It was a little soggy and the portions were small. A 2.5 out of 5 ratings would be appropriate for this item.
Service: OK. The server was nice.
Ambiance: Good.
Recommendation: It is unlikely that I will visit this place frequently. If you are looking for authentic Indian food, I wouldn't recommend this place. As a starting point, this would be a good place if you're not sure whether or not Indian...
