A Comforting Bite in the Rain - Roman's Kitchen, Arcata

Review: Tucked away next to Humboldt Cal Polytechnic University, Roman's Kitchen is a beacon of comfort on a dark, rainy evening in Arcata. Known for its hearty selection of burgers, this quaint eatery offers the perfect refuge for a quick, satisfying meal.

On my recent visit, the weather dictated a cozy night in, making Roman's Kitchen the ideal choice for takeout. Opting for a double patty burger accompanied by sweet potato fries, I was ready to indulge. The burger, while decent, didn't quite hit the 'spectacular' mark but was nonetheless enjoyable. The meat was nicely cooked, and the overall meal served as a great alternative to standard fast-food options.

The service at Roman's Kitchen deserves commendation. Even in the midst of a rainy hustle, the staff managed to be both efficient and friendly, ensuring a smooth takeout experience.

While the burger may not have been a culinary revelation, the combination of good food, friendly service, and the convenience of location earns Roman's Kitchen a solid 4 out of 5 from me. It's a spot I'd happily revisit when in the area, eager to explore more of what their menu has to offer.

For anyone passing through Arcata or students looking for a tasty escape from campus fare, Roman's Kitchen is worth a stop. Check out their menu; perhaps something will catch your eye and tantalize your taste...

Easily the BEST burgers in the Humboldt Bay Area! Locally fresh ingredients and great service with a rewards card that awards your 10th sandwich free. It looks like a food truck from the outside but that’s not really accurate. Sure, Roman’s Kitchen is a food truck but the “truck” part is their kitchen which is just as big as most full sized restaurant kitchens with all storage (cold and otherwise) taken care of in a refrigerated standing structure behind the kitchen. The only real difference boils down to having only outside seating but it makes little difference since everything they serve is fresh and delicious. Wait times are between 10-20 minutes depending on time of day and I have never had to wait longer than 20 minutes for even a large order for 5 people. Every burger, sandwich, side dish and salad I have eaten has been fresh daily, best ingredients, delicious and prepared with great care. They serve daily specials which include their incredible asada fries on Thursdays. If you are craving “American” cuisine, you should do yourself a favor and...

Let me be honest, I hadn't heard anything about Roman's Kitchen, but they've only recently opened up, so that's understandable. Some of my coworkers mentioned getting burgers from this new place in Arcata. I was both skeptical and content at same time and agreed. The burger was simple with a side of fries. I must say, the cooks did a solid for me that afternoon. The bun had good taste and texture; the burger which came with bacon, cheddar cheese, and Sriracha mayo with side of fries. Fries were crispy even after the 15 minute drive back to work. I enjoyed the simplicity that I wanted to give it a try, and I did, hence the Mushroom Provolone Burger and added bacon to it with side of Onion rings. The price is reasonable depending on your burger building desires. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection and so was the onion rings. I mean the batter used is what I'm getting at, for those of you who know. If not, totally fine as well, go check them out in Arcata, cross the street from Cal-Poly Humboldt...

A review with a caveat. Roman's generally always has amazing burgers and the absolute best sweet potato fries I've ever had in my life. I'm a little worried that they might be slipping, though. Got a Mexican Guey today, and was a little disappointed, considering I'd spent $25+ all together on a burger and fries with a 20% tip. The young, white guy who made my burger forgot to put cheese on it, forgot to give me spicy mayo for my fries, the onions used were from that papery, fibrous outer layer of the onion, and the sweet potato fries were soggy/floppy for the first time ever. I really hope this isn't this isn't a sign of the quality I can come to expect, because Roman's has been my favorite burger spot in Humboldt since I moved here years ago. I wish I'd had the foresight to take a picture of the burger and fries, but I hadn't expected to find myself leaving this review, and all that remained were the papery onions I couldn't eat.
