Whether dine-in or carry out or a breakfast burrito for a Sabino Canyon hike, this place is great. Nice to have a Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood that 1) has really fresh, tasty food; 2) isn't over priced; 3) has friendly and efficient service. For breakfast, the machaca burrito is delicious… and copious! My lunchtime go-to is Combo #3, the shredded beef tacos in freshly fried (but not greasy) crisp corn shells. The fish tacos are also yummy. Atmosphere? Well, it ain't Taillevent or Tour d'Argent, but it is clean and pleasant, views of the Catalinas and on occasion when they play the older traditional music (ranchero, mariachi, etc.), it all comes together nicely.

Very clean and super friendly environment. It was lunch time but I was able to order a breakfast burrito for myself. My boys had enchiladas, tostada, and quesadillas, etc. Definitely if ever in the area again, would come to eat here. Had come from a fun Sabino Canyon family day trip, super close by.

It wasn’t bad but the food was a bit greasy and the guac which I love the most was runny (no good) and sour cream was very runny (no good) The pico was yellow and not fresh. The guy at the front with the colored eyes was nice! But overall food I would give 2/5. I hope this helps.

UPDATE: The owner reached out to me as you can see below. We exchanged some emails and I can see that he is a young, caring entrepreneur and the employee and service does not reflect his business model. I am hopeful that this can be a learning point for him and his staff to do better. Wishing you the best going forward!

Worst Mexican food I've ever had! We were hiking the Sabino Canyon and decided to stop for some food and saw Nico's Sabino Canyon on the way. I ordered the Carnitas Chimichanga and, although, very large was filled only with chunked, boiled pork that was absolutely bland tasting and more fat than meat. For $10.95 I totally expect better quality! My wife ordered the shredded beef taco that cost $4.50 and was very similar in size and quality to the 99 cent taco you can get at Jack-in-the-Box! Not only that, but the service was horrible too. The guy behind the counter was distracted by something and ignored me right in the middle of taking my order and asked me to repeat myself a number of times. Just to put icing on the cake...we ordered the food to go and when we got to our spot to eat there were only napkins in the bag!!! Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT eat at Nico's Sabino Canyon!! Tucson has a rich Mexican culture and they do a huge disservice! Lastly, the real name of the restaurant is "Nico's Mexican Food," so when you try to look for them on review sights they are very misleading! DO NOT...

We have been waiting just like everyone else in our area but were let down. We got a Super nachos with no guac and no sour cream on it, but asked for it on the side. Well, it was made wrong so we asked it yo be fixed. They did but forgot the side of sour cream. We live a minute away and ate right away. The meat was not seasoned at all and sooo many broken chips. I am 6 months pregnant and not long after felt sick. Then hours later my spouse felt the same way. We both ended up sick. I know it was the first day being opened but we were so disappointed. While we waited for the food we noticed the floors were very dirty and with so many employees hanging out one could have been cleaning. Besides getting sick, (it could have been something the day before so I do not want to say Nicos made us sick but I just wanted to share that) but we were charged $19.63, I know a single order of super nachos does not cost that much.

I hope to return but we will wait a little.

Good luck and thank you for opening close! North Tucson really...

Called ahead to place an order. Was told that it would be ready in 5 minutes. Drove over, waited about 15 minutes for my order that they hadn’t started preparing. Drove home only to discover that they didn’t actually put half of my food in the bag. Called the store and the kid who answered said “oh yeah, your food is right here, why did you leave without it?” YOU handed me the bag with my order, that’s why!!! No apologies, just evidently my fault that you cannot put my entire order in the bag behind the counter before you handed it to me? Got home which is literally 3 minutes away and my food was ice cold and gross. Way too much hassle and energy for mediocre Mexican food served by a rude employee. Recommend ANYWHERE else for good...
