Black-eyed pea was one of my fondest places to eat as a child, so I recently went to the last one in Arlington, and I was disappointed. Although the food is ok, it definitely is not how it used to be back in the day. First, the atmosphere was decent, and the wait time was short for a Sunday afternoon. Secondly, our waitress, although polite and informative, very rarely came around to the point where I had to flag down another waitresses to find her. Third and finally was the food. I had the Texas chicken fried steak, which had some tough spots but was ok. I honestly thought it was going to be a bigger chicken fried steak, but it was just two pieces. My sides were whipped sweet potatoes, which were sweet, and the baked squash casserole, which was dry and bland. The turkey and dressing was the saving grace of my experience here, it was simply delicious, moist and tender, just how i like it.The rolls and cornbread were soft and tasty, however, I found out there is a limit of three baskets of bread per table. And the sweet tea was sweet just enough. Overall, I would give this spot another tryout of pure nostalgia, but if it were a restaurant by another name, I would definitely think twice.

I had to wait a bit to leave this review because I was mad about being overcharged and the rude server almost arguing that we were not. My husband ordered chicken fried steak with the two sides, plus a baked potato with just butter and sour cream. When he got his potato, it only had butter, but he said it was fine and didn't mention it. When we got the bill he just gave his card and paid, without looking at the receipt. When it came back he added the tip and signed it, he tben noticed he was charged $8.99 for a LOADED baked potato. I told him the loaded was only $4.99 on the menu, even though his was not ordered loaded. I mentioned it to our server and she kept saying we were charged correctly. I kept disagreeing. We didn't want to cause a problem, so we just accepted it and she turned and walked away. As we were leaving I checked the menu and it was, in fact, $4.99. Also, we left her over 20% tip. We choose to drive from the Alliance area of Fort Worth to eat there because I love the cheese broccoli soup, rolls, and cornbread. This is the only BEP in the metroplex so it's not like we can just go to a different one.

Our local Blackeyed Pea closed down a long time ago so when I saw this one., I was so excited (enough so that I went in to dine alone & I never do that). Unfortunately this was a very disappointing visit. It took over half an hour to get my meal (Southwest Chicken Casserole w Broccoli Rice Casserole & Squash Casserole). The Southwest Chicken was refrigerator cold everywhere except around the edges (gross!) The Broccoli Rice was very dry and tasted like it had been sitting done for too long. Again, gross. Squash & Cornbread was really good, thank goodness. Waiter didn’t come back to my table for probably 10 or so minutes and when I told him about my food., he just said he was sorry about that and walked off!?!? No offer to correct it, discount it, nothing! And the worst part, they were SLOW (as you can see in pictures I added). I was also told manager was busy. I visited there yesterday evening and still feel like they should make this right somehow. I will not be visiting them again nor I would I ever recommend them to anyone unless they somehow make this right. Regrets-

I attended black eyed peas with my family for my 17th birthday. I had a total of 25 guests at first we were seated and he took our drink orders, I personally did not receive any drink and when I told him that he said it was still in the making (virgin Piña colada). After about 15 minutes my other guest texted that there would be about 16 of them coming, we asked him would he be able to do it and he said yes so they came and were seated. The only thing I received was my appetizer and three people at my table never received any food. After about another hour only half of my guest ate and the other half only either had drinks or an appetizer. I asked for my drink again and he spoke to me as if I was being annoying. At this point it has been two hours I haven’t received my drink or my entree. My guest were upset cause they had to return some of the food due to it being cold and under cooked. After 40 minutes I got my food (still no drink) and it was cold and tough (chicken fried chicken) I ate it but was upset. We then asked for our check and it was over $800, none of the stuff we never received or that was sent back was taken off. We called for the manager cause the waiter said he wasn’t going to take none of the stuff off. The manager came but was appalled when she saw how many of us there were. The waiter never told the manager about the other guest. He lied and said we never told him about everyone else but the whole table spoke up and said that was untrue. Some of my guests paid in cash and he put the money into his pockets when he thought no one was looking. We had to settle the ticket ourself because the manger and the waiter didn’t want to come off of any money. It took about an hour in a half before we were able to walk out. Then he ran to the car because he didn’t take all the money off of the card that was used to pay and said we still needed to pay $100 so we told him to take the money that was given to him to pay for Salome plates out of his pockets and pay for the rest of the meal. Then we left. This was my worst experience at a restaurant ever and I was completely disappointed with the waiter...

Who knows your restaurants the best??The staff!!

As an experienceed server Trainer from Las Vegas and After being employed there for only four hours to train, which i didn't receive pay for I was unable or willing to bring myself to return later today to finish the training due to the absolute disgusting and and deplorable eating conditions. I would warn against eating here!! I was sickened at the fact I had eaten there the day before without knowing the conditions and that the cooks never wear gloves or wash their hands! The prep cooks, The kitchen manager and all other boh staff use bare hands to prepare ALL food. The prep cook Proceeded to dip his bare arms and hands into a bucket of raw chicken in the walk in while also going container to container for fresh veggies and threw it in a container. The main cook on the line (Kitchen manager)ate celery at one point on the line with his food in one hand and breading cat fish in the other. The server trainer used his hands every time to put lemons in his guests drinks even after I got a spoon because the restaurant doesnt employee tongs or scoops. I was shocked to see Multiple side salads are pre made early in the morning and just sitting exposed not covered from debris or any other contamination in the walk in and not made to order. The rolls and corn bread are so cold in the oven warmer they microwave all rolls and corn bread every time so not fresh at all. They dont have scoops for crouton so just another thing employees use their hands to scoop and drop on your salads. I mean there is cockroaches in the sani bucket. Enough said. I was appalled and couldn't bring myself to work for an establishment I wouldnt eat at myself. Eat at...

I had the worst experience tonight with the older lady at the bar with bangs she was so rude I stated to her that I left my wallet and I called up there and they said it was at the bar my husband went in to get the Wallet I left mean while I drove all the way from Dallas my husband told me the older lady said it would take a hour to get because the safe is locked . So I ended going in she didn’t even speak she carried on like I didn’t exist so I addressed her and she said safe is lock and there is nothing she could do and touched my arm I don’t know why she had to touch me to talk to me but she did and besides me she didn’t even acknowledge half of the African American customers that were there she overlooked them . So I started to get aggravated and I told her mam I will leave just give me my wallet before I have to get frustrated and then I proceeded to tell her could she please call her manager because I’ve been a manager in training before I know how the safes work . She said calling my manager won’t get you your wallet she was so disrespectful and rude and even told me “ it’s not my fault you left your wallet “ so then she called manager and I spoke with him his name is rob he stated he will drive from Dallas to restaurant to give me my wallet . And what a coincidence my wallet magically appears 5 mins after I got off the phone with rob . Smh I use to love to come here just to see Archie I wish many people was as nice as he is there & but no worries I won’t be back at all the lady at the bar is a...
