A little too popular for its own good at times, but there's no denying why. It's exterior is a little unassuming in a generic multi-use building off of the highway (drove by it for years and never gave it much thought), but a walk inside and you'll definitely pick up what many locals already knew; this bar/restaurant means business.
The dark wood finish and gold/brass give it a nice old-school fancy charm, as do the spiffy uniforms of the bartenders and wait staff. Thankfully the outfits aren't the only great thing about the staff, as almost everyone that spoke to us was very warm, friendly, and polite. We did have some trouble with our reservation, but that is most likely due to the biggest flaw of the place...its popularity.
Walking into Mac's at 7pm on a Friday looks like Fat Tuesday at Razoo's...way more packed than you could have possibly imagined. Despite reservations, we were seated about 10 minutes late due to them simply not having a table for us. However, once we got the table, things went right back to great. Our server was quick on the drink orders, got us salad right away, and even gave us some time to enjoy it before getting entree orders (pro tip, if you think you might want the salad...GET the salad). I went with the grilled shrimp, and it they really mean "grilled". The barbeque smoked flavor coming off of these was superb, and the flavor was even better. My wife can't get enough of the crawfish etouffee, it's her fave dish. If you're in the area, you'd be crazy not to try it...just plan for a...
Read moreWe came in yesterday to celebrate Father's Day, party of 4 at 5pm. We had 5pm reservations and were seated on time. We have been eating at this establishment for YEARS Decades)! MAC came by our table and said hello to my parents, as well as, my boyfriend who he also knows. The service was horrible. Let me start with I think the kitchen was backed up way before we arrived. To the hostesses, if you have a party of 4 you should put 4 sets of silverware out for each. person. Help out the waitress with providing water to your patrons vs. two young hostesses chatting sbd stsnding around. After sitting at the table for 10 minutes I asked the hostess to bring us additional silverware and water even though the waitress eventually brought us our drink order. We ordered 3 different appetizers to share, as well as, 2 soup and salad orders and a steak entree. When the appetizers came out there was no serving spoon to serve the crab claws. We had also asked for more hot bread for the crab claws. We ended up using the teaspoon to serve ourselves. By the time we got a spoon and more bread we we were finished the appetizers. The salads came to the table at a different time than the gumbo was brought out. Why? My parents had the gumbo and the seafood was lacking in the bowl of soup. Nothing we ordered came out on time or together. I'm not sure what was going on, but when we spend $200 for dinner I expect good service, food and a nice environment. Do better,...
Read moreMac's Bar & Grill I had heard that Mac's Bar and Grill had the best prime rib available in town so I had to found out myself. I wasn't expecting the white table cloth experience but that was a good start. Once I was seated, Mary greeted me and asked for for my drink order. I requested sweet tea as usual but was gently informed that they only had unsweet tea but they could serve SimpleSyrup for mixing to my desired sweetness, another plus. After reviewing the menu for a moment, I was ready to order a salad, appetizer, entrée, and a dessert.
I started with a Mozzarella Caprese Salad with sliced mozzarella, Roma tomatoes, shallots, fresh basil, oregano, and olive oil. It also had some tiny dills, sliced cucumbers, black olives, and peperoncinnis. My salad was accompanied by Cajun Popcorn Crawfish Tails. For my entrée, I decided to go all in with the 24oz bone-in Prime Rib for only five dollars more for nearly twice the weight than the 12oz. I opted for the Loaded Baked Potato along with the prime rib. Dinner was then followed up with an Espresso Cheesecake for dessert.
Knowing that I would be taking much of it home as leftovers, I took my time and enjoyed every savory bite and then pushed each plate away to make room for the next. This was the most enjoyable meal that I've had in many years and it was worth splurging a little more for the experience. This isn't a regular occurrence, but when pampering is desired, Mac's Bar and Grill...
