I went to try the Blue Mound Cafe on Little Rd. on June 23rd. I was excited to finally try the place, but was quickly disappointed. The wait time to get our meal which should have consisted of chicken fried steak and meatloaf took about 25 minutes to receive. Once I received my meal, it was wrong. I received fried okra instead of mashed potatoes. After notifying our waitress, she did apologize and told me she would correct it. In the meantime, she told me I could keep the fried okra to make up for her mistake. When she came back with y mashed potatoes, she told me she had to take away the fried okra. I found this to be of very bad taste considering they would just throw away the okra as they should due to sanitary reasons. I found it in bad taste also because she offered it as a way to make up her mistake on my order. The entree I ordered was chicken fried steak. Initially I thought it was small compared to other chicken fried steaks I've ordered in the past, but after cutting into it, I realized it was chicken fried chicken instead. I ate it due to being tired and hungry after a 12 day road trip. I did notify the waitress and told her in a calm voice that "she needs to do better next time." She did apologize, but her response made me feel that she possibly knew the order was wrong when she took it to our table. Her explanation was that she was that "all the plates look the same". She made no attempt to rectify our experience. She did ask me if I wanted to talk to somebody about our experience, but I left it up to her since she was our waitress. Good waiters and waitresses would have taken the initiative to make up for the bad service they provided. As I went to pay, she followed us to the cashier. I thought she was going to mention the bad experience and offer something to make up for it, but she just stood a ways away. Not sure if I'll go back. The service was not good at all, and the food was just ok even though I'm yet to try their country fried steak... 2 stars out...
Read moreWe've been here twice (once for breakfast and once for dinner) and won't be back again.
The food is mostly "meh". The pancakes and bacon were decent, but the corn and mashed potatoes are cheap cafeteria quality, with no flavor to speak of. The Chicken Fried Chicken was a little better than that, but not by much. It's good breading on barely passable chicken.
The service is the real killer here. Both times waitresses acted like we were bothering her with our mere presence.
The only slightly "extra" we asked for on our dinner visit is if there was any parsley in their breading, because my wife has an allergy. At first the waitress just said she wasn't sure, but didn't think so, and turn stood there as of she had no intention of checking, but we needed her to check for sure. When she came back, she said it didn't, so we ordered the fried pickles. JUST as the food arrived at our table, someone from the kitchen called out that it DID, which we could clearly see just by looking at it, do I didn't get the impression she checked too thoroughly. Not the level of care and concern you really want to see regarding a food allergy.
On our visit for breakfast, we had to make a simple substitution (again due to a food sensitivity). All we asked is if we could get extra toast (or really ANY other side) instead of the hash browns. It's a substitution we've never had an issue getting anywhere else. But not at Blue Mound. On the list of sides, the toast is cheaper than the hash browns, but they insisted that we pay extra for that substitution. And based on the attitude we got about it, you'd think we asked them to make us a custom 10-course meal.
On top of all that, they charge an extra 3.5% to pay with a credit card.
I've never been to a restaurant so incredibly stingy in every aspect.
Next time we'll go around to corner to IHOP. It's better food and...
Read moreFirst experience there today and we wonât be back. Bad impressions from the get go. Iâm handicapped, walk with a cane and bad limp. They relocated the main entrance to the side of restaurant so handicapped parking is definitely not within the required distance from the door.
The hostess was busy talking to the other servers/cashiers and did not greet me when I walked in. I thought they were patrons. No one wearing any kind of uniform or name tags.
When I did get their attention they acted like it was an inconvenience and proceeded to seat me literally in the farthest area they could possibly seat me in an out of the way closed off room. I asked to sit in the main area as there were plenty of tables and again was made to feel like an inconvenience.
My husband walked in and asked to throw something away and he was told they didnât have trash cans. Food was just okay and one plate came room temperature. We only ordered chili, pinto beans and corn bread.
Our waitress was inattentive and and kept forgetting to check on us and when we asked for anything her response was âgive me a sacâ and never returned.
Husband ordered a To go piece of pie and asked for a small container to put the rest of the chili in that we didnât eat. We proceeded to try to pay and handed the cashier our ticket and husband asked if he could get a small bag to put the to go stuff in. He was told no they donât do that as she handed the woman next to him a bag. Then she accused us of not paying for what we had to go⌠they made us open our food container to make sure it was indeed left overs.
I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. WE WILL...
