First of all, the staff is amazing! Super friendly, greeted us the moment we walked in and answered my many questions without hesitation. We ordered almost every meat so that we had the opportunity to give it a fair shake.
The ribs: tender, fall off the bone and nicely seasoned with a heavy smoke flavor.
Pulled pork: moist, well seasoned and full of smoked flavor.
Pork steak: this is a cut of meat that I absolutely judge bbq places for. This pork steak did not disappoint. It was plastic fork tender, seasoned nicely and full of flavor.
Smoked turkey: I’m not normally a fan of turkey from bbq restaurants, but this was a pleasant surprise. It was moist and full of flavor and I’m really glad I tried it.
Brisket: just like with the turkey, I’m not usually a fan of brisket. This one wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t my favorite meat. On the positive side their brisket is not fatty like other places, so I appreciated that.
Burnt pork ends: they were a little dry but otherwise excellent.
We weren’t crazy about most of the sides, with exception to the collard greens. Those greens were fantastic. The kind you’d expect to find in a good soul food restaurant. Full of flavor and just a pinch of kick. I would go back for those alone. We also tried the baked beans, potato salad and bbq corn. The beans and potato salad were okay, but that’s about it. I’m pretty sure they use frozen corn for the bbq corn. It would have been better with canned corn, but it would have been excellent if they had used fresh corn. The flavor was there but the texture was off.
I spent about $60 for lunch for two, however we have more than enough left over for dinner tonight and probably lunch tomorrow so I feel like we got a lot of food for the money.
Overall, I would definitely go back but next time I’ll stick to collards as...
Read moreI’ve been having a rough go lately and everyone in my family has grown and gone their own ways. We’re also a family of first responders so matching schedules is kind of like playing the lottery. I absolutely love burnt ends and we can’t get them where we live so I pulled out the ol’ google and this place popped up. I suggested it to the family and we decided to give it a go. I have terrible social anxiety so I was a little unsure when we walked in and realized it was cafeteria style. This typically makes me very anxious. I assume I need to very quickly pick, and move on. In this case we were met with friendly faces that allowed the 7 of us to gawk at the menu asking questions. They were very patient and we never felt rushed. They even allowed my father to taste the brisket. Everyone was very friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate my family. They were more than gracious and we appreciate their generosity more than I can express. Truly. The meat was tender and exceptionally seasoned. The sides were southern. The atmosphere was homey and welcoming. The bbq sauce was awesome. We also liked the fact that we were able to get up and refill our drinks and get more sauce without having to wait for a waitress. When there are so many of you everyone runs out of drinks at different times and I feel like we are always over working our waitress. We’re also not the only people in the restaurant that need help.
We will definitely make another trip up north to have dinner with them again and I will certainly recommend them to friends...
Read moreI recently wrote a review, and its now gone- so I am putting it back up. I recently got a chance to enjoy the food Of Smokee Mo's- I had a variety of meats- The smoked ribs, literally feel off the bone, the ribs had flavor, spice and just plain damn great!, I got to try the brisket. I have not had brisket, like this since, stopping in a road house in Texas and until the time I had Smokee Mos, it was the best, not I know I can go to Arnold and get some brisket that is better!- I had a sample of the pulled pork, the smoked chicken and their sides! Those choices were unbelievable- flavor tenderness and just great.
now lets talk about the sides- the smoke potato salad- had me set back by the name? however once I tried it, I was amazed how great it is.
The coleslaw- I was told this is an Imo family recipe- it is great, It reminds me of my Aunt Margaret's, who until this day, I thought made the best- smoke Mo's has hers beat
now for the creme de la creme- the smoke beans- I was chowing down on the pork and beans and my wife said Hey you don't eat pork and beans- I said I have never tasted any like this!, she took a bite and and then we fought over the last portions of the beans- great stuff
lets talk about portions- I have a very hard time, believing anybody will leave Smokee Mo's hungry- you get your money's worth- I wish I would have had room for more garlic bread and the deserts- I just could not hold anymore Smokee mo's is definitely worth a drive and you get your moneys worth...
