Double, double, toil and trouble. Fire burn, and hot pot bubble.
I've had enough & I've reached my Boiling Point, and I'm glad I did!
My first dabble into Taiwanese Hot Pot, Boiling Point is located in the 99 Ranch Market plaza, next to Lee's Sandwiches. I've seen the long lines at night when passing by, so I made a mental note to come during lunch to avoid any wait whatsoever.
Diners receive complimentary sweetened iced tea (black or green). After ordering, have your choice of a side of rice or rice vermicelli.
Lamb hot pot (extra spicy)- Steaming, bubbling & literally overflowing from the pot, the lamb hot pot was stuffed to the gills with ingredients. Rice vermicelli (with the side of vermicelli added in), blood cake, mushrooms, slices of tender lamb, tofu and the rest of the accoutrement made for a veritable feast for the lunchtime ages. After adding the entire contents of the jar of garlic sauce and some spoonfuls of spicy bean paste, the broth was perfect & delicious to the last drop. Hate to say it, but I actually prefer this to a steaming bowl of spicy miso ramen from some of my favorite ramen shops. I asked the attendant to light the flame to keep my soup warm. After awhile, though, it was taking too long to eat because I'd have to cool off each chopstick full of wonderfulness, so I asked for the flame to be extinguished. Periodically, staff comes by with a kettlefull of beef broth if you want a refill of soup. I'm unaware if there is a limit to refills. I had 1, but they never came back to my table with more. Large, spicy, tasty & filling, the lamb hot pot made me warm & happy inside.
After your meal, complimentary dessert comes with the bill in the form of a shot of a basil seed drink. I'm glad it's served in a plastic shot glass, as the drink is very sweet.
On a separate occasion, I visited Boiling Point during their official Grand Opening for BOGO milk tea drinks. I ordered the Hokkaido milk tea w/ light sugar and it hit the spot.
Service was good. I was checked on periodically, having a refill of broth & having my question answered of what were the favorite soups of the attendants. A fair amount of booth & table seating, which I believe more could be added. Maybe extra room is needed because hot soup is moving amongst the clientele, but I'm sure a few extra tables could be added and wouldn't hamper the operation too much. A clipboard is on hand to write your name down during the times there are a lot of people waiting in line. I've only been here during lunch and, thusly, had no need for a waiting list.
Parking is in a private lot at the aforementioned 99 Ranch Market plaza, which can be hard to come by during peak hours.
You down with The BP? Yeah, you know me! Boiling Point serves up delicious and filling hot pot soup that I simply can't get enough of. I just had the lamb hot pot just a little while ago, and my tastebuds are still craving more. A satisfying meal that comes with complimentary iced tea & dessert? You got me, BP! Boiling Point is another great local option for me when some hot soup for the soul is needed.

Read moreHot pot is one of my favorite foods and BP does individual hot pot very well (so well that they've patented their own)! I'd wait up to 20-30 min for their delicious #2 beef bowl, and I've also tried the large Japanese-miso style, and most of the food I've tried here is solid.
The lunch sets here come with a pre-set pot of your choice, tea, and rice or vermicelli. My favorite is the #2 bowl (I'm not a huge seafood person), which comes with beef, lots of cabbage, glass noodles, imitation crab, enoki, mushroom and their signature spice which adds a nice heat even with a mild order. The shape of the bowl ensures that a portion will always be boiling, and if you want it to cool down faster you can ask the waiter to remove the flame. If there isn't enough flavor, you can also try one of the three signature dipping sauces - spicy, sweet, salty and garlic to your choosing.
If you prefer spicy and exotic (like pork blood), go for the Taiwanese #1, but they also have a Thai pot for tom yum lovers, plenty of seafood options, and you can also add whatever you want if you want extra. The drinks here are also pretty solid, I remember really liking the milk tea.
Some negatives: you can't replace the rice or vermicelli with ramen (I always pay extra for ramen), the dessert snow cubes are underwhelming and I wouldn't recommend them, and the wait can sometimes be pretty bad.
Despite the negatives, BP is satisfying everytime I've had it and one of my...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of Boiling Point for perhaps 18 years.
The most amazing part about my recent visit was the operation of the business.
Usually, the store would be only half filled while more people waiting for a table outside. The reason given to me was the kitchen couldn't handle that big of a flow, please wait outside until we are ready to serve.
My, oh my, at their 20th year anniversary with a "buy 1 get 1 free order", my visit went smoothly.
The restaurant was PACKED, no empty tables whatsoever.
Did the service suffer? No! We were asked if there is anything they could provide before they left the table.
When I request for a refill of the broth, it was gone just like that (finger snap ).
Every employee was busy but still very pleasant when interacting with the customers.
I know I am one of those customers who loves the food and loves the way I like it. In short, I'm very picky.
With a packed restaurant, the food was served with only a short wait. The food was just as I expected. Even the rice was done right, not too smoosh nor undercooked.
They were able to maintain a clean and accident free environment.
I was impressed.
I chatted with the person who sat us down and I asked if she was the manager because I was amazed.
I'm the district manager, she said.
That explains it all. Everything ran smoothly.
Kudos to Wendy and thank you for making our dining...
