As a lover of Indian cuisine, I recently had the pleasure of dining at Anjappar Chettinad Indian Restaurant, and I must say that it was an absolute delight for my taste buds. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting ambiance that set the stage for a memorable dining experience.
First and foremost, the menu at Anjappar Chettinad is a true representation of the diverse and authentic flavors of Chettinad cuisine. It offers a wide range of dishes, from traditional classics to regional specialties, providing an opportunity to explore the rich culinary heritage of South India.
To start my culinary journey, I ordered the Chicken Chettinadu, a dish that epitomizes the bold and aromatic flavors of the region. The succulent chicken, marinated in a blend of freshly ground spices and cooked to perfection, was a revelation to my taste buds. The rich gravy infused with coconut, curry leaves, and a hint of tanginess was the perfect complement to the tender meat. It was a true symphony of flavors that left me craving for more.
Next, I had the pleasure of savoring the famous Mutton Biryani, a dish that requires skill and finesse to master. Anjappar Chettinad exceeded my expectations with their version of this classic rice preparation. The fragrant basmati rice was perfectly cooked and infused with aromatic spices. The tender mutton pieces, succulent and bursting with flavor, were a delight to dig into. The biryani was accompanied by a flavorful raita that added a refreshing touch to the overall experience.
Moving on to the vegetarian section, I couldn't resist trying the Paneer Butter Masala. The creamy tomato-based gravy enveloped the tender paneer cubes, resulting in a luscious and indulgent dish. The balance of spices was spot on, creating a harmony of flavors that showcased the expertise of the chefs at Anjappar Chettinad.
The attentive and friendly staff and a special mention to VIijay added to the overall dining experience. They were well-versed in the menu and offered helpful suggestions, ensuring that every guest's preferences were catered to. The service was prompt and efficient, allowing me to fully enjoy the flavors without any interruptions.
To conclude this culinary journey, I indulged in the traditional dessert, Gulab Jamun. The soft, golden-brown dumplings soaked in sweet syrup melted in my mouth, providing the perfect sweet note to end the meal. Anjappar Chettinad Indian Restaurant truly delivers an exceptional dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you are transported to the vibrant and flavorful world of Chettinad cuisine. The authentic flavors, impeccable service, and inviting ambiance make it a must-visit destination for any lover of Indian food.

Read moreI recently dined at Anjappar in Long Beach, CA, and my overall experience was quite enjoyable, deserving a strong 4-star rating.
The culinary journey began with Chicken 65 and Nethili Fry. Both dishes were outstanding, with the Chicken 65 offering a perfect blend of spices and a delightful crunch. The Nethili Fry was equally impressive, cooked to perfection and flavored just right to accentuate the fish without overpowering it.
The soup we ordered was another highlight. It was rich in flavor, with a depth that indicated quality ingredients and a skilled hand in the kitchen. It was a comforting start and set high expectations for the rest of the meal.
We also tried two types of biryani. The mutton biryani, was a flavor-packed dish, with the rice perfectly cooked and the spices masterfully balanced, providing a genuine taste of South Indian cuisine. The quantity was generous, making it a satisfying choice.
However, the plain biryani was a bit of a letdown. It reminded me more of a tomato rice rather than a traditional biryani. While it was certainly edible, it lacked the complexity and layers of flavor one would expect from a biryani. This dish didn’t quite live up to the high standards set by the other items we ordered.
Despite this minor disappointment, the overall quality of the food was high, and the portions were more than satisfactory. The service was efficient and the staff was courteous, adding to the pleasant dining experience.
In summary, Anjappar in Long Beach offers a delightful taste of authentic South Indian cuisine, with most dishes hitting the mark in terms of flavor and quality. The slight miss on the plain biryani is the only reason I’m holding back that one star. I would still recommend this restaurant to anyone craving genuine South Indian flavors and look forward to my next visit, perhaps exploring other dishes on their...
