About 2 months ago I went here... Know that I'm Jamaican and went in with high expectations to both have some good Jamaican food and also support a local establishment.. THIS PLACE IS NOT 4.7 STARS...
We walk in for lunch and heard fairly loud salsa/Spanish music playing... greeted by a hostess who sat us... then asked for specific West Indian dishes the provided menu...1 appetizer + 1 entree... the waiter didn't understand (limited English) so I had to point to what I wanted. He went to the kitchen and came back telling us that neither item was available (note it was 12:30pm so how can you not have main menu items available). Mind you we were there for 20 minutes during this process and there was only one other table with patrons - so it wasn't busy.
Since we were hungry we settled on another more Spanish oriented dish. 10 minutes later no drinks (that we ordered), no interaction, no nothing... so we decided to leave (note: we were the only patrons in the restaurant at this time)... no waiter asking what happened... and the hostess only said " thanks and have a nice day".
And experience this bad cannot be a one-off or one time event, so I question the 4.7 rating and question the reviews being objective and non-familial.
I am a very proud Jamaican and want to ensure no on considers this a "Jamaican spot to eat" nor that this is any example of either Jamaican hospitality nor an example of Jamaican cuisine. Please remove the "Jamaican" from your restaurant...
Read moreA hidden gem in Ashburn! Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen delivers something truly specialâa fusion of Jamaican and Peruvian cuisine thatâs bold, creative, and absolutely delicious. It was my first time experiencing this kind of fusion, and I left completely impressed.
We started with the cevicheâMahi Mahi in a hibiscus-smoked leche de tigre, paired with cassava chips. Flavor-packed and beautifully presented. The patty sampler (veggie, chicken, beef) was a great way to taste variety, and the off-menu chicharrones were outstandingâserved with sweet potato, salsa criolla, and yuca fries, just like in Peru.
For mains, we ordered the Curry Chicken with roti and coconut rice, the Rasta Pasta with jerk chicken, shrimp, and pork, Chicken & a Lomo Saltado, fusion that brought both cultures together on our plates.
Cocktails were a highlightâespecially the Rubadud, a creative and balanced drink made with rum, tequila, coffee, and citrus. Iâm usually not a rum or tequila guy, but that one won me over.
Service was fantastic. Antonio stood out for his hospitality, deep knowledge of the menu, and great recommendations. His energy made the whole experience even better.
If youâre in the DMV and looking for something exciting and unique, Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen should be at the top of your list. This place doesnât just serve foodâit...
Read moreI came upon Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen (a mix of Jamaican & Peruvian food) unexpectedly and walked in around lunch time. The exceptional service began at the host entrance, We were greeted by a Peruvian host and then the Jamaican owner who came over to greet customers - a thoughtful gesture that added a personal touch to the experience. The surprises kept coming. The ambiance exuded charm and cultural depth, with the restaurantâs nameâXaymacaârevealed by the owner to be the ancient indigenous name for Jamaica (a fascinating detail I hadnât known). A striking mural celebrated the rich heritages of both Jamaica and Peru, while the wine section and artful plating hinted at the creativity of a Michelin-starred kitchen.
I ordered the Jamaican Peruvian Jerk Chicken a la Brasa, with yucca and plantains which arrived with three tasty sauces. The Peruvian chicken had a delectable caribbean jerk taste on a different level. For dessert, the coconut 3 leches was a nice end to the meal. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up ordering a meal to take home for my family - but secretly, it was because I wanted to try some of the other interesting dishes. So, I ordered the curry chicken roti and the Rasta burger. It did not disappoint. Looking forward to...
