update review Busy evening and decided to grab and brew while working. Bartender younger guy wearing a beanie seemed rushed and could care less about customer service. He was more concerned with working through the line. After I decided on a brew he called it back to me as he was walking away and I stated no it was another beer. He came back a moment later and I stated this was not the beer I wanted. He stated matter of factly “ well you can try that one next time.” I took the beer went to my table stewed for a moment and then proceeded to bring the full beer back. Advised I wasn’t going to drink it and wanted what I had ordered originally. He gave me a look and then poured the beer. After getting my last beer of the night and cashing out the other beer was still on my tab. I love the beer and atmosphere most days here but service is key when there are so many other places to choose from. Second time here in less than 3 weeks with poor service.
During these uncertain times of Covid-19 Highland does such a great job at keeping everything clean and social distancing professional. Plenty of parking and designated steps to keep us all safe. We choose to sit outside on their patio but they boast a large indoor tap room where we have seen live music before and a rooftop deck with amazing views of the mountains and sunsets. (Note some outside areas or events aren’t available with current Covid-19 measures in place.) Not to be left out there’s also a great outdoor grassy meadows area where we have had the pleasures of hearing live music and events in the past. The entire area seems very family friendly and plenty of options no matter the preference. There was also a local food truck the day we swung by and this is pretty common when they are open to have at least one onsite. Highland has the honor of being the oldest and also therefore the first craft brewer in the Asheville area since 1994 and their dedication to the brews show it. We had our go to beers such as the Avl Ipa’s etc but their small batch brews are always the best. Can’t say enough about the Hazy As Hail a great Hazy IPA very well balanced and juicy. Also even though the day was very warm for our area I had to try the Kiss Me, I’m Irish dry nitro stout. It was well worth it! Can’t say enough of how impressed I am by the consideration and thoughtfulness of this place and the great...
Read moreWhen we began searching for our wedding venue we looked far and wide around the southeast, not having a specific location in mind but we did have an overall vision for our day. We toured several places but once we came across Highland we knew we had found the one. From the start it had everything we wanted for a wedding reception, a perfect outdoor rooftop overlooking the mountains, a perfect cocktail hour spot on the roof and the reception place downstairs was PERFECT for dinner, drinks and dancing to follow.
Erin was so wonderful to work with from the start. She communicated everything with my husband and I, giving us facetime tours and meeting us every time we were in town to visit the space throughout the wedding planning process. The entire Highland staff was top notch including our day of coordinator Kirsten and every single bartender...everyone was so nice and amazing to work with.
The space honestly speaks for itself. The rooftop views are stunning and elegant and the perfect spot for an outdoor ceremony. The flow is perfect because guests can remain on the rooftop for cocktail hour and then everyone walks down a beautiful stairway into the space which is perfect for any amount of guests and has a great spot for a dance floor. The views of the brewing inside was also a cool touch. The space is honestly beautiful on its own but was also the perfect canvas to really make our vision come to life.
I cannot write this review without mentioning the BEER! Highland beer is seriously so good, you even get to pick your own small batch beer and name it for your wedding which our guests thought was so cool. All of guests could not stop talking about how good it all was, there is also prossecco, wine, seltzer, cider and plenty of NA options so there is truly something for everyone.
It was the perfect unique wedding space for a stunning ceremony and incredible party. Our wedding would not have been the same if it was not here and this was hands down the best decision we made. Our guests LOVED this venue and people are still talking about how incredible, pretty and fun everything was. Seriously I have no negative things to say. We LOVED it here and it will always be a special place we can now go back to visit or think of each time we have a...
Read moreI drove across the state to visit Asheville and see Gary Clark Jr. I've seen him at 2 other venues before, but I thought it would be fun seeing him at a brewery. I visit Asheville often, and have been to several great breweries there. The concert was great, but unfortunately Highland wasn't. I would give zero stars if possible. We put a blanket on the ground near other people with blankets, and near people who brought their own chairs. Shortly after, we were told we couldn't sit there because it was within 20 feet of the tent bar. And the man who told us to move wasn't exactly nice about it. By the way, the tent bar was in a terrible place for a sold out concert. Really poor planning there. After we moved, other people sat in that exact spot within 15 minutes and nothing was said to them. After that, I stood in a line at the big bar to get a beer. There were 4 lines and 3 servers. When I got to the front of the line I was in, I approached one of the servers. He accused me of not waiting in a line and 'just walking up from the side'. I assured him I had been in a line and I pointed to where I had been standing. He obviously didn't believe me, and I found myself defending my honesty. He really embarrassed me, treating me like I did something wrong. I brought that beer to my friend (holding down the blanket spot) and got back in the beer line for myself. When I got to the front of the line, the same man saw me, glared at me and then ignored me. I ended up going to a different server eventually. To say I feel the staff at Highland is rude, is an understatement. They obviously don't care about your experience at their venue. I will never go back even if there is a concert I would like to see. And the beer is average, at best. There are much better choices available everywhere else. I will never buy their beer...
