Food was very good; ordering and getting it was the choke point. Stood in line for 31 minutes to order, then another (reasonable) 13 minutes before food was delivered. They cook to order which makes the food good, but 45 minutes from entering to actually getting any food is a bit much. Especially since no wait staff is involved. One person takes all the orders, plus all phone orders, plus makes and hands out drinks, plus runs the order ticket back to the kitchen, really?! This choke point may be deliberate to keep the kitchen from going down. But I guarantee no back of house staff was doing 4 different jobs. It appeared there was just as many back of house as there were front of house maybe more, so you'd think that could have at least 1 person dealing with drinks alone. My wife had the French Toast casserole, which she really liked. I had the corn beef hash w/ 2 eggs. It tasted very good, but was a small portion as far as I was concerned. I find it odd on a Sunday that you would purposefully jam up the entrance, block traffic flow for both guest and workers, and inhibit access to restrooms all because the order taker has too much to do. Must be on purpose.

At first glance Homegrown is a small quaint little restaurant. This was our first time at Homegrown. We were a little confused when we walked in because we weren’t sure if we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We asked a staff member who very kindly instructed us that we pick from the very large menu on the wall then order at the counter and take the given number to our seats and they will bring our food out (similar to chick-fil-a). Also the silverware, condiments, and salt/pepper are at a centralized location that you help yourself with. There were 4 in our party and we each ordered something different (buttermilk fried chicken with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, pimpin chicken sandwich with fries, Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries, and fried catfish with fries and Shelby slaw) we also ordered banana pudding to go. Overall the food was very good the only complaint was the catfish had a thick breading on it but other than that we all really enjoyed everything. I must mention that the banana pudding was phenomenal! Overall this was a great little place that we will visit again next time we are in the area.

Today was the second time I've eaten here. The first was the blackened Catfish. Twas terrible....used the same pan too many times and tasted burnt. Today I decided to give them another try (after 5 years) with the Catfish and got it fried this time...I mean how do you mess it up fried right?.....well they did, the breading was falling off and was also cooked in old grease or temperature on the fryer was too high (above 350°). The fish itself was tasty though the breading just falls off as you bite into the filet. The sauce was good and really was the best thing. The Ceasar salad had good flavor in the dressing but the kale had not been massaged to break it down and make it soft like you want it to be when it's raw and in a salad. That's like rookie cooking mistakes. And the garlic was whole roasted cloves! Lol who does that? Not cost effective nor is a whole clove of garlic something anyone wants to take a bite out of lol! Not sure who the chef is, but he either doesn't care or doesn't know what is coming out of the kitchen. Bad experience again all around. Will not be back and I suggest you avoid at all costs!

I’m writing this review as a chef. I didn’t want to write this but it seemed necessary. We went in today as the only customers of color. We placed our order. The lady in front of us got her food and we continued to wait over 20 minutes for our food to be served as we watched SEVERAL other tables receive their food. Finally as i was about to ask for a refund, a lady brought our food to the table.

My husband’s fries were over fried (most likely in old grease) and cold. He said his fish was good (as a chef it was clearly fried in old grease as well — i didn’t tell him). My daughter got the meatloaf. It’s what she gets everywhere. She was appalled at the gravy and said it looked like “slop.” Yes she’s probably spoiled bc i cook gourmet at home. However she’s very open minded especially for being autistic. However i tried the gravy and you could tell it there had been an effort to reconstitute it and had separated. It was gelatinous. The meatloaf was reheated to the point of being burned. My meal had the least probability of being messed up. I knew that when i ordered it. With high hopes, i awaited my bbq tofu and Asian slaw. The tofu was fried to perfection then sadly smothered with BBQ sauce as if they mistreated their ability to fry tofu accurately. A drizzle would’ve perfectly complemented the perfectly fried tofu. The bread was unnecessary. The sprouts and Asian? Slaw were very good.

Altogether the menu was overwhelming and spoke be cut in half to include only specialties that can be executed to perfection. I saw only half way performed meals lost...

I recently visited Homegrown restaurant with my fiancé and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. We both ordered the catfish po boy, accompanied by sides. However, the overall quality of the meal and the pricing left us disappointed.

Firstly, my side dish, a biscuit, was extremely dry and disappointingly small. It lacked the freshness and flavor one would expect from a restaurant. In fact, I found that canned biscuits tasted better in comparison.

Moreover, the catfish po boy sandwich was a letdown. It was overloaded with sauce, making it messy and difficult to eat. The excessive sauce caused the sandwich to fall apart, resulting in a less enjoyable dining experience. Additionally, the portion size of the sandwich was quite small, leaving us feeling unsatisfied.

Furthermore, the ambiance of the restaurant was uncomfortably hot. The lack of proper ventilation made it difficult to enjoy our meal in a comfortable environment.

Lastly, we found the prices at Homegrown to be significantly higher than what we would expect for the quality and portion sizes provided. The overall value for money was disappointing.

While we appreciate the concept of Homegrown and its focus on local ingredients, our visit left us underwhelmed. We hope that the restaurant takes these points into consideration and makes improvements to enhance the dining experience for future customers.

Please note that this review is based on our personal experience and others may have...
