I first discovered Duck Donuts in Raleigh when I used to fly there weekly for work. I don’t remember them being made to order so this was a very pleasant surprise to find freshness was part of their brand. I got the cinnamon sugar and lemon raspberry which were both really good, and a pumpkin spice latte. The reason for the 4 stars is my latte was incredibly watered down, it literally tasted like water and pumpkin spice syrup AND it was luke warm! I saw them make it and sipped it about two minutes later when I got to my car, so that was disappointing and confusing on how that’s even possible. Also the fresh donuts have their drawbacks, by the time I got home to enjoy them they were stuck to the bottom of the box because they were put in when they were really hot. So not really appealing having to scrap half the donut out of the box because it peeled apart when I picked it up. And the icing was barely noticeable which in a way os good because I don’t like super sweet stuff, but it was not memorable which isn’t so good.
I also wish all the staff wore gloves. The young lady who made my latte didn’t wear any and to some that’s not a big deal, but I went to a local coffee shop I won’t name and watching the barista text on her phone while waiting for my latte didn’t make me feel safe during these times. I didn’t see her clean her phone before starting the next order. I would have also like to see masks like many of the restaurants offering takeout do. Watching someone breathe out their mouth while making your food is also an uncomfortable sight during these times.
The donuts are great though and I will likely be back when they bring the vegan...
Read moreCool idea. They make the donuts fresh to order, so they're nice & warm. This isnt your run-of-the-mill donut shop. You choose single donuts, half-dozen, full dozen, or a bucket (I've no idea how many are in it...I didnt ask.) Then you decide what you want on them. They have a variety of toppings, drizzles, and sprinkles/crumbles listed on the wall menu - or you can choose from their current seasonal creations on smaller menus on the counter. The donuts are delicious as like I said, they're literally freshly fried and garnished. They're warm with a very lightly crisp outer layer. Our 5 year olds fave is strawberry topping with marshmallow drizzle & rainbow sprinkles. Our 11 year likes a variety of them, but tonight really enjoyed his maple topping with graham cracker crumbles & hot fudge drizzle. My husband almost always gets his with shredded coconut. Of the variety we had tonight, I liked the combo suggested by the cashier which was a mix of raspberry & blueberry drizzle. Reminded me of fresh pancakes or french toast with fruit compote. Tasty! They also serve coffees which are good. My husband is currently in love with their winter blend which is like vanilla, hazelnut and whisky flavor. I liked their riptide(think that was it), bold and smooth blend. Think they also do breakfast sandwiches, but never had them. We always get donuts. :) For an idea on pricing, we did a half-dozen, 2 large coffees, a chocolate milk and a white milk and it was...
Read moreDuck Donuts is the "go-to" place for practically any and every occasion. Doesn't matter if you're alone or weather you're with you family/kids! Everyone is made to feel extraordinarily welcome and they can even honestly say you have it your way just as well if not much better than Burger King! Everything is made fresh to order and they make it all right in front so as the customer can go along down the line and watch their each and every donut being made right before their eyes. This I believe cuts down on confusion, disappointment on getting something you didn't want or order and many many many different things. I've not seen an unhappy person walk out of this store and the staff is so sensational along with the 2 owners that also work alongside the employees and get their hands dirty too instead of hiding behind a desk, computer and telephone! Way to go Duck Donuts on Merrimon Ave! Great job! Best coffee and donut shop I've ever been to,...
