First off the line level team here is amazing as is the food. I eat here every couple weeks.
My issue is with the operations manager Matt. I came in today around 2pm and one person was behind the counter. He's helped me before and is extremely friendly, he knows regulars names and orders etc.
As he started to greet me someone from the back calls out to him and starts demanding like an angry parent scolding a toddler "what happened last night?" Matt comes out from the kitchen and dresses this guy down in front of me about how it was unacceptable for these people to call out sick. He then makes up a new policy on the spot about needing a doctor's note for two people who are calling out sick together for multiple shifts. Says something about "they must be really sick" in a mean tone.
The worker was relaxed and polite to his manager the whole time but I wasn't. After 2 minutes of me awkwardly standing there he turns around with a smile and asks how he can help. I ask if that's the owner and he said no "the operations manager" I looked at ops and told him he just lost a customer due to the way he treats people. He then yelled at me "you don't know" I did yell back at him as I walked to the door letting him know my restaurant management experience. And I apologize for losing my cool.
But I do know you never treat anyone the way he treated that employee and you NEVER do it on the line in front of customers. If there is an issue that's what the office is for. I've fired people for stealing on their first week, but I did it with respect and never once raised my voice the way this guy did. If this is how he treats the awesome workers it's no wonder people call out sick, I wouldn't work for a bully like that.
Please take care of the assets you have in your front line team. The guy who tried to help me today has always been...
Read moreI ran in for a carry out sandwich on the evening of 10/26/23 and I am so glad I did. When I arrived, a young man was speaking to people who appeared to be his family. They were precious! By the time I ordered, he was behind the counter. Another young man had greeted me immediately and made my food right away. My sub was excellent. Everything was fresh and exactly what I would have hoped for. Even though I feel like I got a wonderful meal at a good price, that was not the best part of my visit. I was in the store for a total of about 5 minutes. It was easily the best 5 minutes of my day. I sincerely hope that what I experienced is the norm for this business! The employees were exemplary in every way. The young man who prepared my order was smiling and positive. He was attentive. His sense of humor is perfect for working with customers here. He made me feel welcome and at home. The other young man seemed the same. I watched them doing things like washing their hands and putting on their gloves not only like they are supposed to, but like it's obviously simply their routine. They clearly interacted with one another professionally and in a positive manner. As I was leaving, another employee came out of the back of the restaurant to restock chips. This team appeared to work together like textbooks could be written about them. I don't know that I've ever seen a business with a more welcoming, positive, comfortable atmosphere. These employees earned my highest praise! Whoever empowers then to create this atmosphere (and, as I said, I hope this is the norm for this location of Jersey Mike's), whether it is the three young people I saw during my visit or the business's leadership, is doing something absolutely right! Thanks for...
Read moreIt was very expensive (almost $50) for the lowest quality gluten-free sandwiches I've ever eaten in my life. The guy behind the counter was very rude. This was our first time at Jersey Mike's, so we weren't sure of their process. The guy made it sound like you just tell him what you want on it, you pay, then wait until it's done while getting drinks. So we gave them our order and did just that, then they yelled the number of the sandwich in a very rude tone. My husband goes up there thinking it's done, and he has to repeat the order 3 times again to these people, and they still didn't get it right. At that point, I was so hungry and annoyed I just ate the stupid sandwich. Then my husband's hot sandwich was wrong too because it was supposed to be chicken but they put beef. I understand that it can be stressful working in jobs like these, I've been there but goodness gracious this was bad and not worth what we spent. We left...
