We live over in Erwin, TN 50min away, and were down in Asheville. We were actually at the business across the street trying to figure out where to go eat. The guys recommended Pizza Mind, and we said sold. There is inside and outside patio seating super cute. Reminded me of Sarasota, FL, the area near Siesta Key vibe, but in the mountains, we lived in SWFL for 36 years. They were busy, only like a 15-20 min wait. The host suggested we sit at the bar, but there were not two seats together. Some man then walked over to us and said he was alone and would move down one, so we thanked him and the host and off to the bar it was. I did appreciate that the host didn't have his cell phone on him, but yall need to get a clock up there so they know what time it is. He had to ask me when we were going to add our name to the wait list. All of the girls behind the bar were super sweet. I can't for the life of me remember the drink I ordered but it was amazing. It was made with bourbon and was strong, yummy, and pretty. I ordered the hot Italian and waffle fries. My only complaint with the Italian was the sausage. I loved the added flavor to the sandwich, but it's a mess. It makes it very hard to pick the sandwich up and eat it without everything falling out of the bottom. I tried a knife and fork, but that wasn't working any better. With that being said, I still will order it again because the flavors were definitely there, and it tasted wonderful. The waffle fries were the best I've ever had. My husband had the chicken parm sandwich and side of mac n cheese. My pappy immigrated to America from Italy. Not only did my husband love the sandwich, but it was also hands down the best I've ever tried. Of course, aside from my nonas. I'm getting it the next time we go. Now that Mac n cheese. Not only do I come from an Italian family, I come from an appalachian Italian family. This mac n cheese, I mean, just order it. I promise. You WILL thank me later. This place was so amazing that not only will we be back, but I will make the drive there specifically just to come back to Pizza Mind. I can't wait to try the fried...
Read morePizza Mind is a small Italian eatery located on Haywood Road 3 miles west of Patton Ave in the West Asheville district. The west village area has several small eateries along its winding length and is reminiscent of some of the small cute villages I have traveled through in New York State.
The outside of Pizza Mind is composed of red brick and has a somewhat modern style. There is sufficient parking for the patrons who desire to eat here. Parking can be of major concern for the many local businesses but is not a particular problem here. The inside of the building has a nice bar, counter seating, bar tables, and a couple of large-screen televisions. Nothing fancy, but neat and serviceable.
The grilled chicken sandwich I chose at lunch was quite tasty (10.00 dollars), made with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, spinach, red onions, and topped with an aioli sauce. My sandwich was served a la carte and offered no additional accompaniments for my lunch course. I wanted a slice of pizza to take back home, but Pizza Mind only sold whole pizzas. I settled on taking back one of their personal-pan pizzas ($10.00). For people with smaller appetites, the pizza could serve two or three people. They did not skimp on the toppings, and the pizza crust was exceptional. The pizza was served scalding hot and proved quite filling. If I had any complaint, it would be that the ingredients they used produced an oil sheen which caused the copious amount of cheese and sauce to float above the pizza crust. A slice of pizza proved very difficult to hold until somewhat cooled. Nonetheless, I enjoyed dining on the pizza very much. Pizza prices were a little on the high side. A full-size specialty pizza can set you back up to $26.00. A full-size cheese pizza is $16.00. However, I believe you can justify the cost here based on the quality and quantity of the ingredients used.
Based upon my short personal experience, I can recommend dining...
Read moreSmammin' pie place on the West Side (An expression from Bawwstin, MA my old stomping grounds). This pie is a definitely a must see/do... especially if you can sit outside. Patio looked great, but the wind that day was bad. A typical AshEville staff, cool, low key, friendly but not overtly like some southern places (like ones where they might just hop in to your booth and take a sip of you water, lol). My second visit...first was a biz-lunch, and they were very cool about my food allergies! Props for that. Some restaurants don't care...and don't help you know what Ingredients are in what foods they make...this staff is spot on with the knowledge of their foods. I digress...My second visit was with my tween daughter so we kept it simple and got a straight-up pepperoni and cheese and it was amazing. We also got an appetizer of the fried green bean fries which... don't freak out, they're not super fried they're just slightly coated in this amazing bread crumb mixture which has a little kick to it, it has some little red pepper flakes and herbs in it, pretty awesome and definitely not overly fried, they were still crispy (al-dente) and really tasty and fresh tasting not bad for you, well sort of bad for you but not as bad as they could have been if saturated with grease. So in a nutshell this place on the Westside of Asheville is a hot one so get out and see it and you won't be disappointed. So it's a two thumbs way up! We need one in the East Side...
