The Hound is located where the old Greyhound bus station was at the entrance to the tunnel on Tunnel Road. Their menu changes depending on which night you were there so make sure you look up their menu on the website. I have included a photograph of the menu section that has the items we ordered.

My husband and I go out with another couple once a month to a different restaurant. Sort of like a dinner club. We each take turns picking where we go and he agreed to go wherever that person chose.

All-in-all we really liked the menu from Saturday night provided by Bonita’s. I think our only true drawback to it was there was no menu for those who are less adventurous. We’re not even sure there was a kids menu. If there is, it was not included on the standard menu. One of the people in our group likes the very basic flavors. So I asked if they could make a quesadilla with just chicken and cheese. They said they could not do chicken and cheese, but they could do pork and cheese. I stressed a couple of times “ She does not like flavor”. And they assured me that should work. Unfortunately, the pork was seasoned with the same seasonings as any of the other pork shoulder dishes. So she was unable to eat it.

We sat inside which was very dark. Reminded me of Stony Knob Cafe but. They also had outdoor dinning lit with the porch lights cafes and breweries are popular for. You seat yourself and go up to the bar to place your order for both food and beverage. They had one lady running orders but she was efficient and we lacked for nothing.

** I would have liked to have posted pictures of the food we got, but unfortunately, I do not see that...

I have nothing negative to say about this business. The food and service is great! I did, however, just take a greyhound bus from Asheville yesterday and learned a bit about the economic disparity in this city. They used to pick up at what is now known as “The Hound”. A building with bathrooms and heat. If you didn’t have other means of transportation and had to sign up for a Greyhound bus (God help you) at least you were treated like a human. Now, The only bus that runs departs at 4 AM in the morning at a Shell station outside of city limits. No bathrooms for people, no shelter to get away from the weather, they’re not even allowed in the store! Yesterday the bus was unexpectedly postponed for six hours. Which meant that when I comfortably arrived at 10 o’clock (because I got notifications on my phone) there was an elderly man who had been out in the cold, sitting on an unforgiving cement curb, without restroom access, since 4am. Did the owner and staff of “The Hound” have anything to do with this? Absolutely NOT. That would be an absurd claim. The building had been closed for a long time before they bought it and renovated it. So why am I even writing this? Well, A part of me feels that patrons that are sitting on the patio, enjoying a nice cocktail, at a place affectionately called “The Hound” ought to know what is currently happening to the people that have been displaced and forgotten. With every fancy new establishment catering to rich people there is another person who gets pushed a little further away. Abandoned by the place they once called home. Try the teriyaki...

Went for the first time tonight and will not be going back. Got our drinks and sat at the bar. They make you run a tab but 45 minutes later, no food. Starving at that point, we asked the bartender to just cancel the order. He argued with me, told me it was “coming” and then asked if I wanted it boxed or he could see about a discount. No we wanted to cancel the order completely. Then he comes out of the kitchen with our spam appetizer, after we asked to cancel. 10 minutes later and several plates from the kitchen that were not ours…no one came to settle our drink/app tab. I had to wait in the walk up line to get someone’s attention. We wasted a hour of a Friday night and paid 27 dollars for a piece of spam and two drinks.

Who I’m assuming to be the manager came over eventually to cash us out. She also argued with us about canceling the order, said “it’s being plated” right now. At this point we asked to cancel over 15 minutes ago. Not one worker offered apologies, a warning the kitchen was backed up, checked on us prior to us asking or tried to rectify the situation. As a service worker myself, I found the customer service to be the most disappointing part.

To drive this point home, as we were trying to cash out, another customer came up and asked if we had gotten our food because they also had been waiting almost an hour for a single order of potatoes.

Save your money and your sanity and go eat at the Mexican place...

Wow! Fantastic hidden gem just outside of downtown. I came here Saturday for a nightcap (round two). This was a quarter mile from my hotel but I drove anyway because I started at Sovereign Remedy first, but Hound caught my eye as I drove past it and I knew I would stop there before heading back to the hotel and I am so glad I did. I had a perfectly pleasant and enjoyable experience sitting at the bar sipping on a bubbly drink (Inertia Creeps - spritz, aperol, mandarin, prosecco, soda, orange peel) and reading my book. The bartender was really nice. It's a well decorated area with plenty of cozy seating options. It was nearly empty on Saturday around 10pm which was perfect for the kind of experience I wanted then! I was really tempted by the potstickers on the menu (they had some other appetizing sounding selections). This is another place I'll definitely return to. Pricewise too, it's great; drinks are around $10-12 and bar bites between $8-10, can't beat that!

Edit: below is my original review, but for obvious reasons I had to add this. Included, my note to The Hound… There are no words to express my gratitude. He was our everything. He loved the mountains. He loved Candler, home. He loved this spot just downstream from Sunburst trout out in Pisgah. He loved The Hound, the treat bucket, and the love. You guys are second to none. Keep doing amazing things. Your furever fans, The Thornes. RIP Kiezel Strom Thorne Have been going here since they opened with our sweet boy. Recently we lost our sweet gsp Kiezel and we went back to toast to him. Staff is always so kind and food is well thought out and flavors are impeccable. Cocktails are unique and there’s something for everyone. Even a treat bucket for good doggies. 💕

The Hound is one of East Asheville’s best surprises. Tucked away but full of charm, this spot delivers way beyond what you’d expect — from creative bar bites, full meals, to a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. The food from Bonito Kitchen in The Hound is standout: fresh, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. Pair that with solid drinks, attentive staff, and a vibe that feels equal parts neighborhood bar and foodie destination, and you’ve got a winner. If you haven’t made your way to The Hound yet, put it on your list. It’s a true East Asheville gem that proves great things happen when food, drink, and community come together.
