I went to Thirsty Monk with some cohorts from WCU on our break today and this was my first time in this establishment. We got there about 20 minutes or so before noon and there was nobody in the place yet. The young woman behind the counter was extremely friendly and I placed an order for a Monk Burger. I had really been craving a "good burger". I'm so glad I picked this place for lunch! Wow! What a pleasant surprise! The fries were plentiful and fresh hand cut, but the star was the burger. It was a delicious burger that hit on all cylinders. The meat was seasoned and cooked medium just like I ordered. The pickle chips, thinly sliced red onions, tomato and lettuce were all great. Sometimes when I order a burger at a restaurant, I wind up finding some of those items lacking and pull them off - not here. It was an amazing burger; probably the best restaurant burger I've had in a long, long time. Of course, Thirsty Monk is known more for their libations, but don't skip the food! Next time I will try the fish and chips! Super friendly people, great location, outdoor picnic tables for seating and delicious food. I'll...

Beer: They have a lot of taps and often have pint night specials where you get to keep the glass.

Bartenders: Always pleasant, happy to offer suggestions.

Building/Parking: The building sits on the corner in the Biltmore Park area. They have big windows that open for nice days. They have church-pew benches mixed in to the seating selections which I love. They have a few tables for outdoor seating. Parking is all around the spot and I have never had trouble finding a place to park. The bathrooms are neaty/tidy.

Tip: I definitely suggest this spot if you are already in the Biltmore Park area, but do not suggest it if you are traveling from somewhere else in Asheville. (There is another location downtown if you are closer...

World class beers, as anyone knows - but the tacos are awful.

Been drinking @ TM since inception, and have loved their recent addition of their own beers - totally world class. Not sure why I'd never had lunch there though, so I pulled up the website, saw the 2-for-$5 Mon/Fri special - and popped in.

It wasn't $5 - it was $9 and it tasted like cardboard. The server wouldn't give me the time of day, and after waiting 10 mins to order beer or food and being the only person at the bar - I debated leaving. Maybe it was an off day, but seriously - if you're looking for tacos hit Zias, Taco Temple, or Taco Billy...those are tacos.

But you can't go wrong w/ TM's own beer. Belgian at its best in AVL. Stick w/ that &...

What a fun and exciting place. For starters the folks that work there are so nice, informative, and polite. Customer service is key and they nailed it. The beer..I tried two different ones and they were delicious. Not overpowering and not under powering they were just right. The atmosphere inside the location is a lot of fun with ample seating. They also have benches outside. I met a few nice locals and everyone was so nice. Definitely looking forward to going back sometime. They do have food of which I didn’t try. There is plenty of parking either on the road or in the parking garage. Lastly, they also serve liquor. Go give them a try I can assure you it is worth the visit.

Got the fish and chips with the margarita seltzer. The seltzer was great, no complaints. The fish and chips were not great. The trout was fried so hard it curled, but the crust was gummy beneath the surface, and the fries were a sad inconsistent mess of over and under done. The jalapeno tartar sauce was watery and was wildly forgettable. The coleslaw was the best part of the plate, but the bar wasn't high. For $18+ tip, it was a super disappointing meal and most ended in the trash. I'd go back for the seltzer and the cute atmosphere and I'd skip the food.

We stopped and grabbed lunch here after getting into town. The food was just....eh. Bad bar food would be how I would describe it. Their onion rings are thinly sliced onions that came out, cold and essentially evaporated in your mouth. The house salad looks like something that would be served at a hospital cafeteria. They do have a small selection of local breweries on their tap list, and that is nice to be able to sample some different beers from around town. Their house triple is very good. I would not skip it, but avoid the food.
