Thunder Burgerz Grill — Restaurant in Asheville

Visited today March 2nd because I have been wanting to stop in and try one of the special baked potatoes. When ordering I simply asked the cashier, a thin white female with black bangs what comes on the “Texas Cheese Tater” to which she replied we don’t have one, could you point to where you see that on the menu because it’s not there” which. It in fact is on the menu but that’s not the point here. I decided to try a cheddar and Broccoli tater and proceeded to wait over 20 minutes, with only two other customers behind me which were served before me. Now, keep it mind I’m waiting for my order so I’m watching the employees hoping they say my name soon cause I was hungry. To which I watched the girl who took my order play with her hair then proceed to touch someone’s burger patty and bun without gloves on. At this point I’m disgusted, but still hungry so I continue to wait; contemplating if I want hair or bare fingers on my potato. I also watched her cut someone’s potato without gloves on as well: As I proceed to patiently wait I watch the African American employee make their dinner I suppose and walk to the back behind the other girl. After a few moments I get back in line, and politely ask for a refund because at this point I have waited over the 20 minutes stated above, and the male cashier did not apologize or anything didn’t say a word.Other than when he asked me what I ordered and what my total was. He said it was refunded but would not provide me with a receipt showing so, only flipped his screen toward me and said see it’s done. I am a General Manager for another local food business and have been for 5 plus years so I know that this service and the health department violations I witnessed are subpar. Employees on the phone, no hand washing, barely any glove usage. But more than that I am disappointed, in the overall service not even the fact that I did not get what I have been waiting to try. Just before 2 p.m. on Friday, July 19th, 2024, I was in the mood for a greek salad. I googled "greek salads near me," and several down in the results list was Thunder Burgerz, located on Smokey Park Hwy. I clicked on the website, which listed a single location at the Asheville Mall, on the other side of town. The website menu listed no greek salad.

I called the phone number for the Google result to confirm the location, and a male answered, "Thunder Burgerz, Smokey Park Hwy, can you hold for a minute?"

"Yes," I replied.

While on hold, I started driving to the address on Smokey Park Hwy.

When I arrived, a menu posted outside the front door listed a greek salad. I walked into the restaurant, still on hold. There was one party dining in, and one party paying at the register. Otherwise, the restaurant was empty. When the paying party left, I stepped up to the young man with coarse, black hair with several braids in it, at the counter. He looked at me and said nothing.

I held my phone up, which was still on hold, and said in a casual, even tone, "I thought you'd be busier; I've been on hold for 12 minutes."

"Huh," he grunted. And that was all he had to say.

He sat down on a stool behind the counter, and I looked up at the menu, pondering whether or not the food might be better than the service. The young man sat there in silence.

After about 2 minutes or so waiting for any sign of hope, I turned slowly, without a word, and left quietly. I went elsewhere to get service and lunch.

I don't know why I would ever come back to...

I had started to like this place for the wings but decided to try something new so we settled on pizza. I ordered a 14 inch pizza with half with what I call supreme with no sausage and the other half pepperoni. When I got the pizza it was a meat lovers pizza with no sausage so I called to tell them my order was wrong, the lady who took my call was so rude and mean and pretty much blamed me for their mistake by saying that the “new” employee thought I was talking about a different style pizza even though I told her it was a half and half pizza, I even asked if it could be done that way which she replied yes, the lady who took my call was rude and mean and when I asked her if she wanted me to bring the pizza back since she finally told me she would replace it she said well you can keep it for all I care it is what it is in a very hateful tone and hung up on me before I gave her the name for the order. The pizza they remade was terrible so I don’t know if we will ever eat there again because the lady I spoke to could have and should have been professional about the situation, I can get wings somewhere else, they are definitely not worth putting up with that...
