UPDATE: upgrading this to 5 stars! We decided to try this again after quite some time and wow have things changed. Service is prompt and friendly. The sushi got upgraded as well. Significantly bigger and better than it used to be. My husband loved the sweetheart roll. I got the Edamame Deluxe Hibachi and oh my word was is huge and delicious. I shared it with my husband and daughter and still had leftovers and a belly ache for eating too much. But it was so good. Prices are reasonable. Especially in comparison to other sushi and hibachi places. Plus now they extended their menu to include ramen bowls. It's nice and clean inside. I went back for lunch with my daughter today and our waitress from last time came by to say hi. So sweet. And the food was amazing again. I would say that they more than worked out their bugs. And are now one of my favorites in town.
3 stars originally Solid, ok. Usually I do not go to a place so soon after opening as to allow them to work the bugs out. But I promised my daughter a sushi lunch after the dentist and they were the ones open today. We got there about 10 mins after opening. They seated us right away. Even pulled the chairs for us which daughter pointed out. She took our order pretty quickly. We waited about 10 mins for drinks and then another half an hour for the food. I was kind of hoping that it wouldn't be as long as I heard about because of being there so early. But it wasn't the case. Plus, it looked like they had a ton of to go orders being filled. My daughter never got a refill on her drink. I never got a water with my tea. But things that I can let go of for a new place. Hibachi was only $8. That is cheaper than most meals at fast food places these days. So we did that and a standard roll. The California roll is only $4 something and the Philadelphia roll was $6. When it arrived it was all quite small portions. I mean, definitely enough food, but kind of surprisingly small portions in this day and age. The hibachi chicken was good. I can't say that I love it, but it was good. Kind of a standard hibachi minus the shrimp and large portions. The California roll was small but what you would expect. My daughter liked it. She felt that she had better ones elsewhere. But for me the Philadelphia roll totally missed the mark. The fish was tasting and smelling fishy. (No, fish should never smell) it was also very oily kind of slimy. It was also a tiny roll for $6. If it was $4 like the California, this would pass. Not very appealing. So overall impression is just an Ok. I won't go much further into this since I will probably try again down the road and do an update to see if they get it together. I'll also update if I have food gastro problems from that P-roll. $40 for two...
Read moreHORRIBLE!!!! Waste of money. First strike, they don't seat you, the 3 people standing around waiting for customers just pointed at a table and said you sit there... you sit there ... in very broken almost unintelligible English. I found this to be very rude for such an establishment that advertises they're an authentic Japanese steakhouse & Hibachi. Second strike, WHERE ARE THE HIBACHI GRILLS ? None are anywhere in sight. The fact that you have to make reservations for a restaurant , makes you think you're getting an authentic experience , like most Hibachi places, where they cook at your table. Not the case. The menus were dirty with food and grease. As we're the bathrooms, just deplorable. They bring you items that weren't anywhere on the menu, as in a bowl of barely warm broth(I think it was supposed to be broth but tasted like old bath water) and a quarter of a head of iceberg lettuce chopped in a bowl with some orange mayo looking stuff on it that I would not touch. Looked like it had been sitting around a few hours. And the fact that they bring it about 30 seconds after you order, makes me wonder how many of these things sit in a cooler for hours or days. Sorry, I didn't order a salad and I didn't order a bowl of bath water. That just didn't sit well with me. Third strike: the food was poorly cooked. Jalapeno bites or poppers they call them were a raw Jalapeno with a smear of cream cheese, a chunk of imitation crab, and dipped in batter that was so undercooked it fell apart. (See photo) the entree was a huge heaping pile of rice and barely any good veggies (mostly large chunks of onions ) with shrimp that was overcooked and of course rubbery. Tasted like a bouncy ball with lots of soy sauce . Inedible. I have worked and managed a lot of restaurants in my life and this place goes on list of never to return. I get better treatment and food at the local pizzerias and sub shops , at a far better price. 'Edamame' needs to train their servers how to properly serve and treat customers. And don't make your portions exactly the same for lunch and dinner but then rack up the prices for dinner. Very dissatisfied and...
Read moreWent here on Saturday, January 28th and it was not a good experience. The place was packed with high school dance patrons that were just finishing up. We walked in and we're never acknowledged or greeted. There were people waiting for to go food too. We waited and waited and then finally talked to someone who said they were waiting for tables to open. When the tables finally opened, they stood around and did not clear them. One woman sat on a chair and was on her phone while more people walked in that were not greeted. Someone asked what was going on and they said they were waiting on someone to clear the tables and move them back. Someone suggested the women at the counter and the one on the phone do it so they started to clear the tables. The servers walked by these tables several times empty handed on their way back to the kitchen like they had no clue to clear the tables or save their steps. The kitchen was staffed well and we're all busy but everyone needed to step it up and communicate to guests and employees what was happening. The owner needs to figure out how to avoid situations like this in the future or they will not be in business too long. We left and went elsewhere after spending at least a half hour watching the dysfunction. Food might be good but you have to know how to run a restaurant and unfortunately they have...
