I work in Aston and was looking for a "go-to" Chinese take-out place. Based on positive reviews and it's close proximity to my job, I decided to start my search with Lucky Wok.
My vetting process with a new Chinese place involves ordering the following menu items over the course of my first few visits: Wonton soup, Hot & Sour soup, Kung Po Chicken, Moo Shu Pork, and a Lo Mein. Today marks the day I've gotten through them all, and overall I've been impressed. I won't go into a ton of detail other than on the moo shu, but I will say all of these menu items except the hot & sour soup I'd rate about as highly as I'd ever had from a Chinese restaurant.
The moo shu in particular was excellent, with very flavorful and tender pieces of pork, not greasy, and not soggy, which is often the case. The rice pancakes were somewhat tacky and a little difficult to pull apart but actually made for much better rolls than with the pancakes you usually get with this dish, which have a tendency to be dry, and can crack and not hold everything together very well. Highly recommend giving this a try if you've never had moo shu before.
The Hot & Sour soup was just ok, it seems like something a lot of places struggle with. It wasn't terrible, but I'll stick to wonton soup if I'm in the mood for soup.
I order during lunch and pickup at the restaurant. Prices are reasonable and its always been ready within 10-15 minutes. Definitely recommend checking...
Read moreMy friend and I ordered for lunch, the food was disappointing and the service was okay, but the real issue was the price. My friend and I ordered the entrees with fried rice and egg roll which on the website is listed at $8.50. The guy who put the order in instead gave us 2 large orders of fried rice and 2 large entrees, causing the order to double in price. What was supposed to be a 25$ order according to their menu prices came out to around $50. While I wouldn’t mind paying this price for good food, it wasn’t that great. The fried rice had an odd taste that I can’t explain other than it was hard to stomach. My Szechuan beef was rather flavorless despite the menu saying it was spicy and there were maybe 10 pieces of beef in container, the rest being a mix of under and overcooked vegetables. We also did not get the eggrolls. The only positive part of this experience was the delivery speed, we had our food in under 20 minutes...
Read moreWhat the heck happened to this place? I've lived in Aston for 30 years and this place has always been our "go-to" for Chinese. Lately, the food is bland or under cooked. Placed an order last night - costs me $54 for some basic stuff (their prices are going up). The pork fried rice was white in the carton. Either it spent no time in the wok or they put no soy on it. Probably both because the rice had zero taste to it. Lo-mein was dry - literally dry. How do you take something out of a wok and put in a container and it's dry when you get some out.
Like I said.....this place has gone downhill for awhile. The good cooks in the kitchen must be gone or maybe it's owned by someone else.....but I need a new joint to order from. This place...
