Allgood Lounge — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

In the 3 years I have been in Athens, Allgood has been one of my favorite bars. Every time I had been, pool was complimentary. Within the span of a week pool was no longer free, according to the bartender working at the upstairs bar. Many bars charge for pool, so this in and of itself is not a big deal. I asked the bartender why it had changed all of the sudden and she very snarkily replied that it had never been free in the 6 years she had worked there. If that is the case, which I find hard to believe since I have played pool at Allgood many many times before, then there certainly would have been a more hospitable way to communicate that to me and my party.

I had 100+ people coming into town for my wedding and many asked which bars are worth checking out. I was planning on recommending Allgood however after this incident I recommended other bars (some of which charge for pool but have always been consistent and up front about it). This place has good drinks and a great atmosphere. The decor is gorge... so close to insomnia and the outside patio is so pretty. The reason I can't give it five stars is because of the music selection. The first night we went they played a variety of music but not the second. The first bartender changed the playlist to fit the audience. The second bartender played a very specific genre of music not preferred by many of us. Lots of our group (about 25) asked for a more diverse selection and the second bartender declined and said he had to play the preset playlist. It's an awesome bar except the service is horrible and the bartenders might load up your tab with extra drinks. I went there with a group of guys seated at the downstairs bar for the duration of a football game. Maybe everyone was wasted and getting hammered but we were not and we all had several extra drinks on our tabs. There was only one bartender who served us and she did her best to play stupid after we asked for itemized receipts. "Oh, you didn't order two Jack and Cokes?" I guess the management has some inventory control so the bartenders steal from the clientele to cover up stealing from the bar. They should all...
