I give Walker's two stars instead of one because my poor experience is exclusively due to one person working behind the bar, who is suspect is the blonde woman referenced in other poor reviews. I learned when I tried to order that Walker's doesn't take tap, and my students and I had already agreed to do solo work there today, so rather than move my class, I just went to a neighboring coffee shop and got something else, not realizing Walker's didn't allow outside drinks. As soon as I came back, this employee flagged me down and I explained the situation. She said her boss wouldn't allow it, so I asked if I could speak to her boss. I'm not here to get anyone in trouble for following a rule, so her boss would be the person to talk to instead. She just got more belligerent with me. It's a minor thing. It had been a long morning, and I just wanted to have a coffee. There was hardly anyone in there except me and my students, and we weren't bothering anyone. There was no attempt to be kind or work with me. So my students and I decided to move to a different location. As I was talking to my students to explain why we were moving, this employee began yelling at me from behind the bar, in front of my students, saying I was being rude and wouldn't let up. I told her we were just trying to leave. She kept yelling at me, even as we were just peacefully exiting the door, saying that I was the adult in the group and this is how I chose to behave in front of my students. Adults walk away when they are faced with service that continues to be belligerent, which is exactly what we did.
I won't be coming back. There are a lot of problems in the world - maybe chill. It's not that serious. Because this one employee representing Walker's chose not to be flexible and kind, the location ultimately lost business that would have more than made up for the one coffee I couldn't buy from them. I hope Walker's improves its relationship with customers - it otherwise seems like it has a lot of potential to be a nice place to work...
Read moreI BELIEVE AN EMPLOYEE CHARGED ME A SHOT AND SHE TOOK IT AT THE BAR AFTER SHE CLOCKED OUT.
I’ve been walkers plenty. It’s a college spot for sure so you know what you’re getting. But I was recently SCAMMED by here. I believe the bartender/barista charged a shot onto my account, clocked out, and took the shot while sitting at the bar after her shift.
I ordered a few beers and a coffee for my girlfriend. The tab I got back when I went to pay didn’t make sense for the amount so I asked the bartender which had changed from shift change. He then asked the bartender who helped me, and she said I don’t know what you’re talking about but didn’t help figure it out just minded her own business. The bartender then made me pay the full incorrect payment of the tab, for the shot I didn’t even take (the employee definitely took it) and then made me pay for the corrected tab after the fact. He said he voided the first tab but it was already charged so I had to pay both but the first one would be refunded within a few days and if not to call them and figure it out. Guess what ? Didn’t get refunded. I called the place 19 times, and got put to voicemail everytime. I don’t live in Athens, was simply visiting as a stop on my return from Spring Break towards my college. So what am I to do now ? I currently paid 50 bucks for a few beers and a coffee ! PBRs are $3.50 for reference lol.
Again, I know this is a college bar but I cannot stand when someone does something morally wrong. Not that hard to be a good person. For sure made me lose my respect for this place. Would not recommend for customer service at all as you can read from other comments. Plenty of other spots that have beer, coffee, and dry pastries in Athens that serve you with a little human compassion. Again, I BELIEVE THE EMPLOYEE CHARGED ME A SHOT...
Read moreReally disappointing experience. We frequent walker’s and have had good experiences, but there is a particular barista that is always rude and unwelcoming.
Today we got our usual drinks and they were not up to par. The coffee tasted sour, like an expired taste. Which is a shame because their drinks are not cheap. I came up to the front, tried to explain and just asked politely if there was something they could do. The barista was incredibly standoffish, I was met with “sorry, we don’t give away free drinks” in a condescending tone. Didn’t offer any alternative suggestion and made things super awkward. I said, ok, maybe we could just split the difference on another round? (she could have probably just offered to add some cream to it and we would’ve been happy) She got the manager who also said no. The manager eventually agreed to charge half off for two more drinks after another customer chimed in, but you would’ve thought I came in off the street and demanded they clean my shoes or something with the way they acted about it.
This experience just left a bad taste in our mouths, literally. This went from being our go-to spot to a place we’ll probably avoid...
