Taqueria Del Sol — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

I am really saddened to write this review but after thinking on this overnight I believe we were very mistreated at this restaurant. I’ve eaten here countless times, and spent quite a bit of money at this restaurant, and my husband and I were treated with no respect last night. I believe this was one of the first nights it had gotten busy as the students were back. We noticed as we were standing in line that the tables were dwindling so my husband stayed in line and I went to grab the next open table. I was unaware that this was not how they did business- none on the staff was communicating and all seemed very overwhelmed with the amount of people coming in. I saw three staff members talking about me and pointing to me and one of the staff members came over and yelled at me “what are you standing here for?” And I explained my husband was in line and I was waiting for a table. He acted pissed and walked off. At this time my husband called me to come back to line because he realized that this was not a first come first serve type of place (like Cali n Tito’s) and they were going to assign us a table. As we’re standing in line the man who spoke to me so harshly was causing a scene yelling at the host to take no more orders and running around like he was in true peril. It was awkward for everyone in the restaurant. We said we would get our food to go as it seemed that the staff were about to have a meltdown. After we ordered and were waiting we noticed that many tables had gotten up and there was no more line so we went to grab one. It also had started to rain so we weren’t going to be able to take the food elsewhere to enjoy outside. My husband was on the way to ask the host to change the order to dine in when the same rude staff member yelled at her about the table we just took and said “are they dining in now?” And she said “no” and the man yelled “are you sure about that?” At the same time my husband had gotten to the register to ask her to change it to dine in and she rolled her eyes and said “I guess.” At this time I noticed how POORLY we were being treated and asked to just get the $50 order we had placed to go. Many other customers saw how poorly we were being treated and offered for us to sit with them or take their table. The staff all knew we had been poorly treated and completely ignored the situation even though their staff members were causing a scene and not communicating. We ended up eating our food in the earth fare parking lot- not the best date night without kiddos. If you are a parent you know those date nights are special and the staff truly treated us with contempt on our date night. I don’t know that we will ever eat here again and can’t believe the level of disrespect we received after spending money with an establishment. I have had multiple awful experiences with staff at this restaurant. They have been hostile to groups larger than 4 on repeated instances. In the latest occurrence (my wife's birthday), we had 6 people. After ordering, our 6th person had gone to move their car into a better parking spot (parking is also awful here, but not something they can help). The restaurant manager (I assume), very rudely scolded my mother for trying to pull two tables (4 people per table max) together while our 6th was moving her car, stating he would not let her do it until our 6th had returned. My mother said she understood the policy and offered to show him her location on find my iPhone, stating she would be back in 1 minute and we had 5 people who could not fit at one table - but he had already turned red and stormed off to another spot in the restaurant. Roughly 45 seconds later he came back to the table with his hands shaking, still fully red, and told my mother (who had complied and had not joined the tables as my sister wasn't back yet), that if she was going to be "Disrespectful of the restaurants policies" he would cancel our $100+ order and we should leave. Do with this review what you will, but I would definitely think twice before bring 4+ people here. This was also not an isolated incident, I have had other very unpleasant experiences with one of his waiters as well when there by myself. The food was delicious. I got the Chips and Queso, the pork carnitas enchilada with the lemon crema, the brisket taco, and the fried chicken taco, and then a sweet tea. The Queso and Chips are definitely a must, the queso has a little bit of jalapeno but it is not very spicy, it's very mild, and it adds a very nice taste. The chips were crisp and delicious too. I do wish we had gotten some salsa too as I imagine it would have been delicious. The pork carnitas enchilada with lemon crema was very good, however I felt that the lemon crema was a little overrated based on what I was told. It was good, but I personally wish I'd gone with a different sauce. The Fried chicken taco was very tasty but I wish the chicken was shredded a touch more or they used smaller but more pieces to better even out the taco. The brisket taco was very good but it was a little cold. The only service was the waiters who delivered the food. No more than that, but it was fast.
