This was my third visit, the first two being quite a few years ago.. I don’t get to Athens much. The place is kind of divided into a bar side and restaurant side. The bar side has more pub atmosphere but the restaurant side is less so. Our waitress was really good. She was attentive but not intrusive. The place was packed and she still managed to check in. The food was good pub food.. well prepared and cooked. Our first problem was with our appetizer. They were out of boiled peanuts..???? Don’t know how you can run out of boiled peanuts, one of their staples. Then they were out of Parmesan chicken.. even though they had the fried chicken sandwich. 🤦♂️ the other complaint was the bar service to the table.. our first beers came pretty quick right along with our appetizer. We ordered a second beer halfway through our meal and basically never got it. The waitress kept checking but said we were in the queue and the bar was really backed up. WTH! It does not take much to pour a beer vs mix a cocktail.. this is a poor management decision. if 1) only one bartender is the beer pourer or 2) they serve bar patrons first that’s bad planning especially in a pub. It’s part of a pub experience to have a beer/drink first then have some noshers. I know this is a university town bar but they need to step it up their restaurant management training. Just annoying. In all fairness I’ll make a second visit on a busy day and see if my experience was a one off… don’t pass it up on this review though, give...
Read moreUPDATED- 7/17/2024 So glad we gave this place another try! We were not disappointed this time! We had a good server, drinks were great, and food was delicious and fresh! I ordered the piñata punch…fresh and flavorful sweet with a spice of ginger. My friend ordered a mango punch (not sure of name) and it was awesome!! I ordered the Jalapeño Bacon Burger…oh my stars!!! This was the Best burger! The burger was as cooked perfect! The cheese was melted just right, jalapeño slices and bacon made it super flavorful! And topped with a buttery toasted bun! Everything was absolutely delicious! We all agreed we would be back!
So excited to try this place; however, it was a HUGE disappointment! We ordered our drinks which were good and ordered our food. We waited for over an hour for our food and it never came out. We asked about it and the server said the kitchen had been backed up but it should be out soon. Kept waiting…finally our server came over and gave us the real story. Our food was sent to another table. I find it hard to believe another table of 3 ordered the exact same meals we did. He told us we could wait another 20 minutes and it would be done. However, we had a show to catch so we couldn’t wait. They did comp or drinks. We plan to go back and try the food. From what we saw it looked delicious. Hopefully, I can...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for 12 years ever since my daughter enrolled at UGA. Used to love it. Ever since they renovated and moved High Wire to a separate location it’s gone downhill. Ate there the other night with several family members. They took Trout off the menu which was my go to and was always good. None of us were impressed with the Steak Frites or the Parmesan encrusted chicken. My nephew found not one or two but 4 entire whole cloves of garlic on his side of mashed potatoes. WTF- do they know that it takes 3 minutes to dice up garlic? So disappointed and won’t come back. I was the only one that ordered a cocktail from the bar and I saw the actual bartender NOT our waitress walking around with my drink at tables near us trying to figure out who it belonged to. What servers no longer can pick up drinks at the bar to serve to their tables? What a mess. No wonder we were surprised we got seated so quickly on a Saturday night- I guess everyone realizes the place now sucks. What a shame. Chick fil A chicken is far superior to that chicken entree and the steak frites was so filled with grizzle and fat it could barely be cut let alone edible. Shame on you guys after all those years winning best fries I think...
