I hunt BBQ around the US while traveling as a service technician.
When it comes to southeastern BBQ, these guys are at the top of my list, next to Archibald's BBQ in Tuscaloosa.
The Georgia style (mustard based) bbq sauce is very good. Nice and balanced flavor. If you get their tomato based sauce, mix in a lot of their hot bbq sauce, as the regular sauce is overly sweet (in my opinion)
Their pork is outstanding. The pulled pork specifically was great. A lot of pork I get east of the Mississippi river is just too wet and mushy. This place does not do that. Their pork has juice when you bite into it, but doesn't feel sopping wet when you first touch your tongue with it. The ribs tasted really good. Wish they had a little more bite and bark, but they were definitely moist and had flavor. Many places rely too much on their sauce to cover up the lack of flavor. I could eat this without the sauce.
The Mac was very good, had some spice to it and it definitely didn't seem like it was store bought. Many places give you KFC style Mac that was obviously bought in bulk premade.
I gave the food a 4 out of 5 because the chicken was lacking imo and I'm not the biggest fan of kielbasa style sausage as it's basically like a cooked hot dog. By no means is it bad, I've just become more critical as I have had more bbq around the country. If they give you a little more skin with the chicken, maybe a little more seasoning, and bigger chunks, and if they change out the sausage for a more American style sausage, I would easily give this place a 5.
The place is very small with about 8 little 2 person tables scattered inside. They have a small outdoor patio with room for about 8 more people. Nothing crazy about the atmosphere, just a hole in the wall bbq place with really good bbq on disposable white plate. 3 out of 5. If you want atmosphere, you gotta go to Archibald's in Tuscaloosa or any bbq place in texas for that "bbq pulled from the pit" experience.
I was going to give the service a 3 out of 5 as i just talked to the cashier who was behind a plastic wall and he emotionlessly asked what I wanted. but I bumped it to a 4 because it came out lightning fast. I probably waited for 2 mins max when he quickly held his arm out with my food on a disposable plate.
This place doesn't need the atmosphere nor extremely charismatic staff if you're just looking for quick bbq. They do good pork bbq. Nothing more,...
Read moreSaw the 4.7 rating and went for it. Got there and even tho it looked junky af we went in and ordered (sometimes a s-hole is the best) . They were out of Cole slaw & hot BBQ sauce, no brisket(whatever). Ordered the sausage plate and the pulled pork plate. Got a water outta th cooler and its warm...the food came out on buns for each. That's not the plate... Anyways f it .I go to grab the hot sauce and the ketchup, they both slide outta my hands from the last 19 customers grease. Gross. Well again, f it. I still down eat the food and it's okay but something is not that great. Th Mac and cheese is awesome but it burns my throat on the way down, how do you get Mac and cheese so frickin hot??. Potato salad is good llke u could get at any deli. the sausage is just a sausage in a bun but it's smoked. Not a bad taste but something is wrong. Later that night fart battle Royale to the max. Not feeling good at all. Clearly all the salt or s-hole prep has upset my stomach. Anyways, this is a 3.4 tops. Don't bother unless u like to eat a salt...
Read moreThis bbq was SO good! It was my first visit so I got the sample to try it all. The pulled chicken was flavorful and moist (tiny bit spicy from pepper). The ribs were not my thing but my companion enjoyed them and said they were moist with a small amount of crusty outside. The pulled pork was tasty. I enjoyed the bbq sauce on the table it is a brown sugar sweet. They have other options at the pick up window but I did not try. The coleslaw was different with raisins and a sweeter dressing. Summer casserole was a fan favorite! Almost like stuffing and squash together. YUM! Baked beans were standard. Mac and cheese was delicious (greasy) with time crisp on the top. Peach cobbler was dripping in caramelized sauce and so good! They offer canned and bottled drinks as well as fresh made sweet tea and lemonade. The sweet tea was PERFECT!
Overall, worth the trip and will be visiting again. If you like bbq and southern food you gotta try this joint. They have both inside and...
