Alright Athens peeps, listen up! You know I love a good dive bar, but sometimes you want something a little different, a place with a pulse. That's where Wonderbar comes in. This spot isn't your standard Athens watering hole. Sure, it's got the classic college bar vibes – exposed brick, chill atmosphere – but Wonderbar throws in a unique twist: games! We're talking a whole room full of arcade classics, mario kart, and even some board games for those retro feels. It's the perfect place to unwind after a long week, grab a drink with friends, and unleash your inner champion.
Speaking of drinks, Wonderbar's got a solid selection. Their cocktails are creative and well-made (shoutout to the "Pink Starburst" made by Morgan or Peyton!), and the beer selection is on point, with local brews alongside national favorites. Now, the food is where things get interesting. It's not fancy, but it hits the spot after a few rounds of Pac-Man. The random drinks you get from your friends are surprisingly good, and their classic bar snack are perfect for soaking up the booze. Don't sleep on the cold bar options either – the food is like a hidden gem!
Heads up, though – Wonderbar can get busy on weekends, especially with students. Parking can also be a bit of a challenge, so consider the deck or carpooling if you're coming with a group.
Overall, Wonderbar is a total win for a fun night out. It's got something for everyone – great drinks, classic games, and a lively atmosphere. Whether you're a local legend or just visiting Athens, this spot is worth checking out. Just be prepared to unleash your competitive spirit and maybe brush up on your Donkey Kong and Mario...
Read moreI first got a chance to check this place out on Halloween with some friends. The staff there seemed to handle to massive influx of customers pretty well. They had a few arcade machines I could play for 25 cents a pop to include pac man, mortal combat and galaga. They had an N64 and a gamecube rigged up to projectors so we could play mario cart and goledneye multiplayer and the like. It's one of the few places I've gone in Athens where the music doesn't get on my tits. The only drawback is that the place is a bit on the tiny side, though somehow I doubt that's any fault of theirs. Otherwise a great place to go if you like drinks, games and hanging out with a niche crowd of gamers. They also carry games of the board variety (Scrabble, uno, risk, etc.), as well as and old-timey rock'em sock'em robots by the window. I'm waiting for the night somebody gets a drunken crowd together to...
Read moreTalk about a blast from the past! If you want to feel like a kid again, GO HERE. It’s simple but complex in the best way possible. Simple meaning good drink choices but not an overwhelming amount. It’s low key and not bombarded by college kids. Complex meaning I was constantly pleasantly surprised. Their food menu was awesome - lunchables, noodle bowls, cheese nachos, candy. Their drink concoctions were hilariously awesome - a Capri sun bomb and sour patch shots. I’ve never been to a bar offering those options and it went together so well with the gaming atmosphere. You have to go here. I felt like a kid again and that was the best...
