It was late on a Friday night, and we were coming from out of town with our two grandsons. The place we would normally have gone was supposed to be closing so we decided to try Cinco De Mayo. The parking lot was packed so we figured that they had to be good. We got seated right away, and the adventure began. Our server was named Amanda and she was awesome! She kept our glasses filled, along with the chips and hot salsa. The salsa was so good. There is an ingredient that I can't put my finger on, but it added to it nicely! We ordered a large guacamole and we all four enjoyed it. The large bowl was right at 10$. The atmosphere changed more into a party and less as a family-style restaurant. It did get pretty loud, and my youngest grandson, who was very tired, kept putting his hands over her ears. The boys both wanted nachos, but they didn’t offer that on the child's menu, but Amanda put it on the ticket as a child's burrito. I got the chicken fajita nachos, and my husband got the beef fajitas. It did take quite a while for us to get our food. I don’t know if it was because it was so busy, or they were short-handed in the kitchen. Amanda very politely kept us informed on the status of our order, and kept us in tea, lemonade, chips, and salsa. When our food came out you could tell that it was very fresh. It also was some of the best food I have eaten at a Tex-Mex restaurant. The prices were very reasonable. My plate was 11.95$ and my husband's wasn’t much more though I can't remember exactly how much. I'm looking forward to going back, and so...
Read moreWe'd been wanting to try it out for a while. We won't return. Started out great! Guacamole was very very good, chips light and crisp, queso was unusually good. Salsa good, not terribly salty or hot. Meal should have stopped there. We ordered soft tortillas to begin with, and they took forever to get. Waitress kept apologizing for the delay on the tortillas. They weren't hand-made, and frankly, ok. Our entrees were lousy. I ordered one kind of enchiladas, my husband another, we both got the same ones. Skimpy, with a bare squirt of cream sauce filled with little (and very little) cubes of gray meat. We expected ground beef, got unknown. Slow on the entrees, place was almost empty. Beans were cold on my plate, just ok. Beer was cold and good, served in very tall but very narrow mugs, obviously to cut down on serving size. Check, when I went to retrieve it, was almost shocking for what we got. Considering all the Mexican restaurants in this small town, there is better, cheaper, faster, and more flavorful. When we left, part of the problem, it appeared that the whole staff would rather yak up front than handle the customers. It's not a good experience unless you want guacamole, queso, chips,...
Read moreTo go Order was 6 hard tacos, 2 burrito Supremes, hold the onions, and a side of guacamole grand total $60. - as you can see by The pictures, We couldn’t even pick up the tacos without the bottoms, busting out they were soggy and stale. We ended up getting a half a cup of meat altogether not even enough to make a good taco salad out of it. The burrito Supremes were nothing but beans and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla and it sucked For $10 each you get a scoop of beans folded in a flour tortilla. Completely overpriced for the quality of food that we received. The ground beef inside the tacos were seasoned well, and I ate them with the chips that guacamole came with. The guacamole itself Was not completely mixed and half the avocado was still in a full form in the bottom of the bowl. No prices posted, nor nothing to look at. It was our first visit there and we will not be back. I feel completely violated financially and taking advantage of by Cinco de Mayo restaurant in Athens. I expected so much more for the price that we had to pay. As for the cashier, She was very nice...
