Birthday Dinner for 4 We were celebrating my oldest daughter's birthday, and she decided she wanted to go to Houstons. I made an online reservation on their website a day ahead of time. As we approached the restaurant, I noticed they had complimentary valet parking. I was looking for a self-parking area, but I didn’t see any signs for that option, so I drove up to the valet. The attendants were courteous and I dropped my keys off with them. We entered the restaurant and the hostess was on the phone with her back to the door. Once we were noticed, we were greeted warmly. I advised, I had a reservation for a group of 4. Once my girls were done clicking pictures outside, we were quickly led through the dimly lit dining room to a booth at the far end of the restaurant. The interior was kind of dark, like a speakeasy or piano bar. Our server came by quickly, but we were not ready to order and needed some time to get settled. We all started to review the menu. To me, it did not have that many choices for beer or food, for that matter. When our server returned, we ordered our drinks and Deviled eggs and spinach dip for our appetizers. My birthday girl asked if they had sweet tea and our server responded they only had unsweetened tea. She decided to just go with the water she had already. Wifey wanted a lemonade, but they didn’t have any, so she ordered a sprite. I reviewed the short beer menu and opted for a Reissdorf Koslch beer. We were enjoying our appetizers and decided on our entrees. I ordered the Knife & Fork Barbecue Ribs with Coleslaw and Potato Colcannon, which was a fancy way to say mashed potatoes. Wifey ordered the Rotisserie chicken dinner. My youngest ordered a cheeseburger with fries and my oldest ordered the Scottish Salmon dinner. It did not take long for the food to come out, and we started digging in. I tasted my Ribs and it did not disappoint. The meat was definitely falling off the bone as it advertised on the menu. The birthday girl picked over her Salmon and felt it was under done and we had to send it back to have it cooked a little more. My youngest commented that her cheeseburger was huge, but they were kinda cheap with the fries. Wifey enjoyed her Rotisserie chicken and had enough to take home. We told our server that we were celebrating a birthday, but she advised that there were no complimentary dessert options. She listed their short list of dessert options, but nothing really appealed to the birthday girl, so we all passed. Overall, Houstons had a very nice ambiance and the service we received from Shar was top-notch, but I felt the menu was limited and the prices were...
Read moreHouston's on Peachtree has long been one of my go-to restaurants, a place where I've enjoyed countless memorable meals and exceptional dining experiences. However, my recent visit left me with mixed feelings, as the atmosphere seemed to lack the lively energy and inviting ambiance that I had come to associate with this beloved establishment.
Despite the somber atmosphere, the culinary delights at Houston's remained as impressive as ever. The Hawaiian Ribeye, now named Steak Frites on the menu, was a standout dish that never fails to impress with its perfectly cooked steak and flavorful marinade. Paired with the classic spinach artichoke dip, it was a culinary match made in heaven.
While Houston's consistently delivers on quality and flavor, my recent experience with the Braised Red Cabbage with Goat Cheese fell short of expectations. Known for its robust and tangy flavor profile, the dish seemed to lack its usual punch and depth. The red cabbage appeared bland and uninspired, lacking the signature richness and complexity that I've come to expect from Houston's. Although the addition of creamy goat cheese added a hint of tanginess, it wasn't enough to elevate the overall dish. Hopefully, this was just an off day, and future visits will return to the exceptional standards that Houston's is known for.
However, it was impossible to ignore the palpable sense of heaviness in the air. None of the wait staff appeared to be happy, and the overall vibe felt subdued compared to previous visits. It was a stark departure from the lively and inviting atmosphere that I had grown accustomed to, and it left me feeling somewhat disheartened.
To add to the disappointment, the apple walnut cobbler, a dessert I had eagerly anticipated, fell short of expectations. Instead of the promised abundance of apples, it was little more than a bowl of walnuts drowning in caramel syrup. It was a disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable meal.
In conclusion, while the food at Houston's on Peachtree continues to impress with its quality and flavor, the overall dining experience was marred by a lackluster atmosphere and disappointing dessert. It felt more like a place to dine and dash rather than linger and enjoy the company of friends and loved ones. Here's hoping that the vibrant energy and inviting ambiance that once defined Houston's will return in full force, ensuring that future visits are as enjoyable as they have been...
Read moreHello- we unfortunately had the worst restaurant experiences of our entire lives tonight. Both my wife and I have been coming to Houston's and other Hillstone restaurants our entire lives in Atlanta, Nashville, Palm Beach, Bal Harbor, Rutherford, etc. We frequent both the Atlanta locations nearly once a week and have never had anything but the best experiences. Tonight was not. Today is our 1 year old daughter’s birthday and given that we came after every one of my wife’s pregnancy appointments, we felt that Houston’s would be a special place to celebrate. We have brought her to both Houston’s locations multiple times and never had the slightest issue or comment about behavior. Within 5 minutes of sitting down and no crying or loud noises from our daughter, a “manager” approached our table to inform us that she was not in line with expected noise level and atmosphere. While she is a one year old and certainly does cry at times, this was absolutely not the case in this circumstance. He went on to ask if we’d like some mango to calm down her “outbursts”. There were no outbursts at all and in fact before this pretentious prick made his way to our table, 2 guests and 2 waitresses had commented about how cute/sweet she was and were waving/talking to her. Another guest stopped to say how beautiful and sweet she was shortly after this so called manager left. The waitress was so sweet shortly after and apologizing for what had happened saying she had done absolutely nothing wrong… We were made to feel extremely uncomfortable and obviously did not enjoy the rest of the experience. We were hyper aware of her behavior making sure she was absolutely not bothering anyone. After no more noises or “outbursts” another “manager” came to the table to discuss her behavior. She was literally quieter than the laughs/noises of the tables around us. I honestly thought this guy was coming to joke around about it and apologize, but he was just as much of a jerk. After no further disruption and a 3rd visit we just volunteered to leave after the absolutely uncalled for harassment. While paying, the waitress profusely was apologizing for the way we were treated. We are so severely disappointed that Hillstone would employ two people that clearly had an agenda against us from the second they saw...
