Paolo's Gelato Italiano — Restaurant in Atlanta

My stars do not reflect the ice cream or product but indeed the poor service i received this time. I gave been to Paolo gelateria few times and the courtesy and atmosphere were always very welcoming. I understand the COVID 19 has transformed the way things are offered to the public but the menu outside wasn't clear on what flavor my 6 years old son wanted to try today. He wanted strawberry but the guy told us they didn't have it. So i told him what flavors were those in the two pink containers and he said "is not strawberry" without specifying what they were. So i said "i'll take the pink". He said which one? There are 3 pink. So i said "oh. Okay the one that is directly in front of us. The one that looks like strawberry". He replied "EXCUSE ME?" I think he was very frustrated for no reason as ge should have explained the flavors. We picked the pink which it wasn't what my son liked and i ended up buying a second ice cream for him. I feel like that he could have simply described the flavors instead of assuming i knew what they were from 8 feet of distance and i would not have waisted money since they price is not minimal. This experience has left a bad taste...

I'm still smiling about our wonderful experience at Paolo's Gelato shop! As a fellow business owner in the Virginia Highland area, I was blown away by his exceptional hospitality. When he learned that my kids and I were neighbors, he generously offered us a complimentary ice cream treat and warmly welcomed us to the community. The ice cream was absolutely divine - creamy, flavorful, and the perfect way to brighten up our day. My kids were overjoyed and still talk about the delicious flavors they got to try. But what really impressed us was Paolo's kindness and genuine enthusiasm for making us feel valued. It's super clear why his business is thriving - his passion for his shop and commitment to customer satisfaction are truly remarkable. Must have been leftovers day... I'm sorry to give a negative review but when somebody claims that his product is so good and highlights the fact that he uses alleged first quality ingredients, that he's from Italy, and lots of bla bla bla... then he should also be aware that with good ingredients he's only half way to make a good "gelato". First the texture : it was full of ice crystals, which clearly means that it has been close to melting and frozen again more than once. Then the flavor: never had in my life such a tasteless chocolate. In fact the color was so light that it must have been 98% milk. Pistachio was also tasteless. Price: definitely too much for the quality. Huge sizes of...sweet nothing.
