I overheard a gentleman earlier this evening being dramatic for no reason and just needed to chime in.. I don't usually speak out but because we love this place so much and the staff that takes care of us, I had to say something.
I've been a regular here for months and have seen some noticeable changes recently. The evolving concept (cocktail wise, which is questionable because it is VERY left field from the original list) is exciting, and the service remains EXCEPTIONAL, especially thanks to Mel, Kam, and Terrence, who consistently bring genuine hospitality. We were here earlier this evening and was surprised Mel was there, she usually doesn't work on Sundays but to our surprise, we were sooooo elated!!!
Anyways, If the direction is to be a tiki bar, then the atmosphere, offerings, and menu should reflect that more clearly. It’s also been unfortunate to see a noticeable elimination in selections of tequilas, beers, and bourbons—elements that once added depth to the experience. I'm not hood so to say but I cannot lie, I like four roses jack every once in a while!
That said, during a recent visit, I witnessed an unfortunate incident where a guest became unnecessarily annoyed, for real, for no reason!!! Despite Mel calmly offering him choices and trying to accommodate him, he seemed more interested in making a scene—going so far as to circle back twice and loudly declare to his lady that he would leave a review, what grown man does that?! It was a busy night, and both Mel and Terrence were working hard to keep things running smoothly. Situations like these are frustrating to watch, especially when it’s clear the staff is doing their best under pressure. Some people seem more intent on being heard than being fair! They both do the best they can with what they have! I don't understand people's need to go over the top! Maybe they want a free tab, not sure, but it is obnoxious!
This place has a lot of potential, and with the right people behind the bar—people who truly understand hospitality—it can thrive. Let’s just hope the vision stays true and that the team is supported in delivering the quality and experience that regulars appreciate.
Thank you for coming to my...
Read moreHad a great time here! Having a hard time figuring out what they're trying to do here however! I know there was a switch in management because things are very different. My group and I want to go places where there's a little bit for everyone. I get the vibe of 80/90s Florida bar just from the retro posts and the seating area in front of the bar. I'm just confused as to what's happening now. I have seen a sudden change in tequila's missing, not that I care, they were all pretty crappy anyways, bourbons have disappeared, and the rums seemed to increase?? Are they trying to now go to a tiki bar? Not sure why the sudden switch. We have 3 REALLY great ones and they can't be touched!! If I were you guys, I would stick to being a chill, fun, retro bar, get more beers, increase your whiskey/bourbons selection, and have specials during the week! You guys need help in that regard. You have 4 taps and 2 beers! Try something different! The DJ's on Fridays were great and then that changed! something is reallllllly going down hill here! We want something different! a place where we can go have a good time, great prices, and a great selection. you guys have 4 canned beers and 2 drafts! come on now! the amount of breweries around you makes it so easy! You have wild heaven and wild leap and you have neither! that is wild!
Anyways, enough of the rant, I always have a blast! I had to say something because the staff is always on point when we come! We usually come on Saturdays with our friends and we look for Mel when we get there! She makes a mean spicy margarita and she's just a great addition! The staff is all wonderful! But we love when she's there!
Hopefully the points at the top help. Hell, upper management may not even care but it was worth saying something!
I will posting the same on Yelp as...
Read moreI drove down to Atlanta to pick up my son from Morehouse. I usually drive down, get a hotel, and leave in the morning. I try to get a hotel that is affordable and close to the campus and the burgeoning West End shops.
I wanted to head by the Boxcar to pick up some brews but decided to check the food hall to get something to eat with my son. I saw this bar and thought it was so cool. It came off like a Tiki Bar without the corn. It looked like a Tiki Bar from 2025 and not 1955.
It was busy with customers so we decided to sit outside. I noticed that every table outside had customers who went back and forth to Strangers in Paradise. I decided to go.
While it was busy, the bar was fully staffed and they were moving. At the same time, they provided good customer service. I ordered and waited about 5 minutes for my drink. During that time, every staff approached me to make sure I was being taken care of. This is rare at a busy bar on a Friday night. I really appreciated it.
I can't remember the drink I ordered but it was rum based. I am not a fan of oversweet cocktails but this one was just right.
Next time I return to Atlanta, I shall cop...
