I grew up eating Tex-Mex alongside traditional Mexican, and I found the food at Superica rather mediocre for the ridiculous prices they charge! Come on! This is Tex-Mex, not Nouvelle cuisine! We had previously eaten at the Avalon location. I at least found some comfort in the unlimited family style rice and beans, and the service was also excellent, so we decided to give them another shot while we were out at Buckhead. Our experience there was quite the opposite. We arrived early at around 5:30, so they weren't that busy. We were promptly seated. However, we waited almost 10 minutes until we saw our server. She seemed more bothered by having to wait on us than anything else. My wife and I have a great appreciation for wait staff, she comes from a restaurant family, and I was a server and bartender throughout my high school and college years, so we get how it's like to be "in the weeds." However, she was not. She was more interested in socializing with the other servers milling about, and her poor service reflected that. She forgot several things we asked for, and we had to remind her or else go without. When the food arrived, only half the table was served, and the others had to wait several minutes for theirs to arrive. We are a family that eats together, so we are always irritated when restaurants do this. To top it off, some of the plates looked like they had been sitting under heat lamps for some time. My wife ordered chicken fajitas, and they were pathetic. Especially for the outrageous price we paid! Many of the pieces of chicken were BURNT (not "blackened"), the guacamole had no flavor, the beans looked and tasted like canned beans that had been rinsed off in chicken broth, and the tortillas were somewhat burned yet had a rubbery texture reminiscent of microwaved bread. The rest of the dishes we ordered were mediocre. The icing on the cake was the hot sauce I asked for. When I asked our server for hot sauce the third time since she had forgotten about the previous two requests, she commented that she had to ask the kitchen for some. I was a bit optimistic by hearing her say that, but I was quickly proven wrong as this restaurant does not fail to disappoint. She brought over a small plastic bottle of hot sauce that had a powdery texture and mostly tasted like vinegar. Even the cheapest, blandest sauce like a Crystal hot sauce would have been better than that stuff! We will not be wasting our money...
Read moreAfter a disappointing experience at the Superica at Krog, we decided to give the Buckhead location a chance. All I can say is that Superica failed us in every way a restaurant could.
First, we had a large group that night. We called ahead at 5pm for an arrival time of 8pm, and was told there would likely be a small wait but that the restaurant could accommodate us. When we arrive at 8pm, we're told that we would be seated within the next 30 minutes and to head to the bar in the meantime. The bar was the only redeemable quality of the restaurant.
After an hour, we're told that our table had been given to another group and that there was no way to know when we could be seated. We then tried to tell the hostess that we could split the group up if needed, but another worker there, possibly some sort of manager assured us that we would be seated soon.
Another hour goes by, part of our group has left without having dinner because it's already very late. At this point, we're understandably upset because had Superica let us know that they couldn't handle a group that night, we would have happily gone elsewhere and likely tried Superica another time. We then let the hostess know that we'll be leaving. At that point, a manager conveniently shows up and says that our table is being prepared. We reluctantly agree to stay.
After another 20 minutes, we are seated. The waitress brings out waters and is not seen again for another 15 minutes. She then brings out some chips and salsa and takes food and drink orders. The restaurant is mostly empty now that it's approaching 11pm.
The food then arrives somewhat quickly. Unfortunately, the food is as bland and disappointing as at the other Superica location. I would compare it to an upscale Taco Bell. Our waitress does not return for any refills of water or for any additional drink orders. We finally find someone to request the bill and quickly pay as the restaurant appears to be closing for the night.
I would not...
