My wife and I drove over 2 hrs on Saturday just for their cheesesteak after seeing the video of the 2 foot cheesesteak and this place did not disappoint one little bit. Heather behind the counter was a joy to talk to, she made us feel like we were regulars coming there every day. I managed to get 2/3 of the 2 footer down and brought the rest home. The roll was great and the meat, onions and cheese were exactly like I liked them. This particular trip we got the non seeded roll. Well today is Sunday and we took the two hour trek back down all over again because I had to try the seeded roll. Man oh man I am so glad we went back down. This time the owner was there as well and He was super friendly as well. Between the owners making you feel completely welcome to the whole Eagles vibe, this place is a must try. I have made it my mission to try as many of the "top" spots for cheesesteaks as I could this summer, and I can honestly say this is absolutely my favorite one of them all. Each person will have their favorite cheesesteak and their bucket of reasons why but this place here is by far my favorite and if you stop in there, you will see why. Oh why we were there, a couple coming from Vermont back home into southern MD. stopped in based on the reviews as well and they said and I can concur and I quote "this is probably the best cheesesteak I have ever had"
Update: I had to update my review based on another 2 hr trip there last weekend. We went for the wings and the philly special sauce and my stars remain the same at 5. The wings were literally falling right off the bone, had a good crisp and the sauce was absolutely amazing. If Google wont let me do a review every time I go, I will just keep updating this one for each trip I go and new item I try.
I would also like to add, they are only a few short minutes from Philly and the sports complex. We are all well aware there are a multitude of "top" cheesesteak places in philly. Again, I will emphasize these cheese steaks and wings as well are as good if not better than any I have had in Philly itself. The big difference is when you go to ANY of the places in philly you are just another face with cash in your hand. from the minute you walk into Champs until the minute you leave, they interact with you, make you feel welcomed and appreciated. You are not just another face walking through. Please if you have not, take the trip go try them, you wont be disappointed.
Great area,...
Read moreLet’s be honest. In a world crammed with faux-gourmet nonsense and Instagrammable junk that tastes like cardboard wrapped in irony, stumbling upon a place like Champs Cheesesteaks in Audubon, New Jersey, feels like slipping into an old pair of jeans — broken in, perfectly worn, and unapologetically real.
This isn’t food that tries to impress you with microgreens or a balsamic reduction. This is food that hugs your ribs and smacks your palate like it means it.
The cheesesteaks? Damn good. No pretense. Just molten cheese cascading over beautifully seasoned steak, shoved into a roll that holds up without crumbling under pressure. What really sets these apart is the perfect cheese-to-meat ratio — no dry bites, no greasy overkill, just a harmonious, hot mess of flavor. And here’s a pro tip: get it with Cooper Sharp. It melts like a dream and wraps around the meat in a way that should probably be illegal in at least three states. Each bite is a love letter to everything that’s right with South Jersey comfort food.
Don’t overlook the chicken cheesesteak, either. Hot, juicy chicken, grilled to order, mingling with gooey cheese in that same beautifully built roll. It’s the kind of sandwich you cradle in your hands like it just told you a secret. There’s also a Veggie-cheesesteak (grilled shrooms, peppers, onions, tomato—yes, with Cooper Sharp) that was surprisingly satisfying.
But here’s where things really go off the rails — in the best possible way: the chicken fingers. These aren’t some sad, freezer-burned afterthought. These are totally outstanding — hand-breaded, crispy, and golden, like something your childhood wishes it had tasted. You bite in, and it’s all crunch and tenderness and salt and yes.
And the mozzarella sticks? Please. They’re little cylinders of joy. Crispy on the outside, and inside, a cheese-pull so satisfying it borders on the erotic. This is mozzarella that stretches, that fights back just a little before giving in. You don’t eat these with dignity. You eat them with both hands and no regrets.
Champs isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. They’re just making it roll better than most. It’s a temple of fried comfort, run by two people who understand that great food doesn’t need a story — it is the story. If you’re anywhere near Audubon, stop over. Get a steak with Cooper Sharp, grab the fingers, order the mozz sticks, crack open a Coke. Sit down. Shut up....
Read moreAbout a month ago I had heard about this place on the town FB page and I was intrigued. Today my son and I were driving by it and thought no better time than to try it out. The store front is clean and well lit. I was greeted by the employees upon entering. There wasn’t an official menu board but they had their paper ones on the counter. They had a large selection of steaks, burgers, dogs, and other sandwiches as well as sides. It seemed well priced as well. We placed our order easily at the counter. As we waited for the food to cook, we were entertained by the Eagles paraphernalia adorning the walls and counter. Whilst waiting, the owner had made an appearance behind the counter. We began chatting and he explained their frequent buyer card. He was a very friendly guy sharing his passions about steaks and other food. He guaranteed me I would like my steak sandwiches. I took the food home with me and anxiously opened the bag to partake in its goodness. They offer two types of torpedo style rolls; one with seeds, one without. I noticed how fresh the rolls were. Never too dough-y or thick but just right in the “bread-to-meat-ratio”. The meat was very flavorful. Not chewy or fatty in any way. I got mine with the American cheese and I wasn’t disappointed at all. What a delicious and quality sandwich! And It wasn’t greasy at all like so many of the other places around. Despite being full when I finished my sandwich, I was disappointed I didn’t have more in my mouth. The short of it is, I’m a huge cheesesteak fan. I’ve tried everything else in the area. Two other local shops come to mind when I think of good cheesesteak sandwiches but this one just inched them out. My deciding points are the quality of the sandwich itself and also the small size of the restaurant itself where you can meet and talk with the owners and the cooks. That means a lot to me, especially in a small town. So, bravo to you, Champs. You won this cheesesteak aficionado over. I’ll be returning shortly for some more...
