The reviews I write are subjective but as honest and fair as possible. It'll be detailed.
Look and cleanliness: The restaurant has an obvious small owner feel. It's not fancy by any means but it's very nice and cozy. It has tables to fit a couple to large families. They have a sushi bar station and a bar for alcohol. The tables at first approach were very clean. They were set up with salt, pepper, soy sauce, and plastic utensils. They accommodate babies with baby chairs as well. Overall this gets a A+ for me.
Service: People in America are overly nice and kind to let off an obvious "good" customer service. The restaurant is ran by lovely korean women who are more than willing to help you seek out delicious foreign food for you to try. The way they talk and serve is very similar to how people of their country of origin would behave. They laid back and amazing cooks. Since this restaurant is of Korean/Japanese nature, this means that drinks are self serve. In their countries in their restaurants, you would go to their fridges and remove what you wanted to drink. They do the same here. Please don't be taken aback by this practice. To me, it feels homey. I love it but, it's different to standard American practice. A for me.
Food: Korean and Japanese food in general is delicious. I loved the food. I enjoy spicy food as well as non spicy food. Their noodles and beef plates were delicious. My god were they good. They have a very subtle feel and the plate overall had a good blend of flavors. I can only vouch for several plates. But those plates were delicious. A+
Summary: the restaurant is reminiscent of restaurants abroad. They let off a piece of Korea that most people most likely will never get to experience. Don't be turned off by the surroundings outside the restaurant. It is well worth your time. All the five stars don't go into the detail necessary to do this place justice. 5 stars for a reason
TLDR: It's good,...
Read moreI'm a recent transfer form out West and was desperate for some good sushi. Having dated a Japanese guy, I know good sushi, and Kinja makes GREAT sushi. It even says so on the window! The setting was calm (despite a party of about 20 prom kids that came in the night I went) and the food presentation was gorgeous. The sushi was too die for and the owners are very nice (I think the guy was a kendo master back in Japan). My only compaint was the service, but that may have partially been my fault. I'd finished my food and wanted to order more, but no one came by to ask if I wanted more even though I sat there with an empty plate for nearly an hour. I later learned that in JP, the waiters come when you call, or more appropriately, yell, that you're ready to order more. Other complaint, they charged me for a beer I never received. Other than that, DEFINATELY worth stopping in. Warning, this place is very out of the way. It's in the little strip mall next to the bowling alley and behind the store that sells...
Read moreI have no idea how this place has so many good reviews. It’s in the back of the shopping plaza and a lil tricky to find. It’s very dark inside with half the dining area closed off and used for storage. The service was… efficient? The server used no extra words or facial expressions. That’s understandable as this is primarily a take-out spot. I had miso and sushi and sashimi. The rice was a short grain white rice but less glutinous than a typical sushi rice. That made it seem a bit undercooked. The fish had almost no flavor I suspect from multiple freeze/thaw cycles. There were limited options on the menu for veggie rolls that weren’t fried. (I guess it is the South!) the sweet potato roll was quite good. The horseradish was very running and gross. The ginger is the pink kind which even gas station sushi doesn’t use anymore! Overall a pretty uncomfortable dining experience and I went for a second dinner...
