Real De Minas Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Aurora

The food is delicious, the service is absolutely HORRIBLE! This was my favorite Mexican restaurant, until last night. I will NEVER go back again, and will make sure no one I know goes either. After having a wonderful meal, we went to pay at the front desk. When I got up there, I saw that my SIDE of shrimp cost $8. My MEAL was $9.99. So it goes with out saying that I was more than a little surprised that my SIDE of shrimp was almost as much as my meal. When I asked the woman at the front desk, Cynthia, why I was charged $8, she told me that the price is firm and she would not do anything. I continued to explain that 1. the price is not listed on the menu, 2. ALL of their sides are under $3.50, so I did not expect to pay 8 DOLLARS for a SIDE of shrimp, 3. My waitress said NOTHING about an $8 addition. Cynthia then continued to tell me that she could not do anything. With a mass amount of attitude she proceeded to tell me that I should have asked my waitress how much I was being charged and that I should not have eaten it if I had a problem with it. I'm not sure if she is aware of how a dining experience goes but you receive the bill at THE END of a meal. As someone who has been in the service industry for over 10 years, not only should it have been listed on the menu, but the server should have mentioned that the side of shrimp I ordered was almost as much as my entire meal. It is important to inform your guests of what they are ordering. The conversation continued with Cynthia telling me that she REFUSED to do ANYTHING about my bill. Keep in mind, I NEVER asked for free food, I simply asked for an explanation and to take care of the $8 SIDE of shrimp because I would not pay $8. Cynthia proceeded to not only raise her voice to me, but to the guests that joined me for dinner. Not only was she pointing her finger in our faces but raising her voice and cussing. She repeatedly told me that she was done talking to me, then began cursing at me. When I asked to speak to a manager she told me that she was the manager and that again, she would not do anything about it. At this point, I was exhausted and appalled at the service I was receiving. I have been in the industry for 10+ years and have NEVER experienced such horrible service. I will never go back again and I hope by reading this, you will not either. There are so many other Mexican places surrounding it. Save your money and go to one of the other places of business that will actually respect you and make their goal to please you, as...

As soon as we entered Real De Minas' doors, the manager took us to a table. As soon as we were seated, a server brought chips and salsa. As soon as he left, another server asked us what our drink choices were. I was impressed how fast everything happened. Real De Minas is a fairly quiet and small restaurant, but has a large and diverse menu. They have plenty of seafood options on the menu and I quickly found what I was looking for-a seafood chimi. It came with creamy jalapeno sauce, but since I don't do hot, I opted for mild green chili sauce. It was very good. A wonderful, BIG margarita, too! They have a few vegetarian dishes also. Since my BIL is vegan, he had a wonderful spinach entree and salad. We had to skip desserts, but I think next time I go I'm having some- they have several delicious sounding desserts on the menu. In fact, there was so much deliciousness on that menu, it's going to take me quite a while to taste it all! I'm going to put this restaurant on my calendar for my dinner group. This restaurant is worth trying. Darn! Forgot...

Terrible restaurant with an even terrible staff and even worse owner? Arrived and we were the only big table. The waitress was most definitely not friendly at all nor helpful. Gave off a little attitude and checked in on our table twice in the last 10 minutes of our visit as we were getting ready to pay. I ate most of my meal without a drink because we were never asked for refills or any additional service. We had to get up and ask the manager or owner (whichever he is) for a refill because the waitress was not paying any attention. Just for asking for that refill we got charged for another soda because "we asked for it." The charge wasn't coming off for that same reason even though it was just a refill. The owner is an extremely pompous arrogant man with probably 1% customer service and very little people skills. The food was decent, definitely wouldn't return for the food. The service was terrible--even though it wasn't peak hours. The experience was horrible. They should rethink their philosophy...
