Where to begin, oh yes, with the diarrhea that took over the rest of my day and evening a few hours after eating Rollin' Smoke's pulled pork, mac 'n cheese and slaw. Of course, the immediate question is how would I know that Rollin' Smoke was the cause? It was my first and last meal of the day, that's how. You see, I knew I was going to the pool party at the Seasons of Cherry Creek and food and drink would be gratis. So why spoil the appetite with pre-meals?

What I can't determine is the specific culprit; was it the pulled pork or the slaw? I can rule out the mac 'n cheese simply because there were others in my group who consumed this overly salted, mushy dish. Therefore, it had to be the pork or slaw. My bet is on the pork, only because I recognized that it was not as warm as I would have expected (inner objections were raised, but hunger overruled). One could also argue the slaw because it contained mayo, which is highly susceptible to spoiling without refrigeration, but if I recall correctly, the slaw was just pullled from the fridge. Therefore, my vote is on the pork . I finished the plate unaware of future consequences, which were visited upon me during a movie with friends and family, crescendoing with my wife texting to check on my health while I sat on the toilet.

In the end, I obviously cannot recommend Rollin' Smoke and would encourage the proprietors to focus on having food thermometers at the ready to ensure all food-borne bacteria is destroyed. In addition, modifications are needed to the mac 'n cheese to address salt and texture. Quick fixes from...

While on a business trip from Ft Worth, TX, I had to try this local BBQ restaurant located in the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, CO.

I ordered the El Jefe sandwich which was brisket, smoked sausage, pulled pork, baked beans and cole slaw on a bun with a side of macaroni and cheese.

I’ve never had baked beans on a BBQ sandwich before so it was a bit of a surprise.

The brisket was from the lean end. It was somewhat dry and lacked a rich smoked flavor. The pull was decent but a little tough for my liking.

Honestly, the pulled pork seemed like it was prepared in a crockpot. It was very mushy and lacked any smoke flavor.

The sausage had a very unusual flavor which is very difficult to describe and was a bit chewy and dry as well.

The beans were a popular brand which can be found at any local grocery store. No beating around the Bush with them.

The cole slaw was decent although I do like mine with a hint of sweet.

The macaroni and cheese was different. I believe it was placed in a smoker. Macaroni and cheese should be just that… macaroni and cheese.

I guess I’m just used to Texas BBQ with rich smoke flavors from hickory and oak woods. Beans made from scratch. A side of bread and butter pickles, sliced sweet yellow onions, and pickled jalapeños always complement a good plate of BBQ along with an ice cold Big Red.

A good effort nonetheless...

Honestly speaking it WAS my favorite spot and I would just Rave about it and the food is normally excellent, but on July 7th 2020 something different happened. I went to the establishment and got rib tip special along with half a pound of burnt ends and a half a slab of ribs as I always do, I got home and my food was dry, didn't smell right, but I still ate it because I was hungry and I had just spent ALL of my money on it. I woke up at 6:30 a m on Wednesday morning and that's when it all broke loose, I vomited all day long until my wife returned home from work and eventually had to take me to the emergency room. When I arrived at the emergency department my pressure very elevated from the pain that I was in, they gave me four bags of IV fluid because I was so dehydrated, they ran all types of and imaging. All of my tests and imaging except for one came back normal, because my lactate was extremely elevated they admitted me for observation to see if they could determine what was going on. Because of all the symptoms that I presented with it was later was determined that it was very likely that it was food poisoning. Just think today to celebrate my birthday I would have been going there to get my usual and going to another establishment to get my Seafood, but I guess I'll just settle for the Seafood. I'll pass on the BBQ from now...

2024 Update To-go: Order of their link and a quarter pound of the beef brisket. Still as tasty as ever and just wished they had table service for a better dining experience, thus, the 4-star rating for atmosphere. Overall, still a near perfect 5-⭐ -------------------------------- Had the Burnt Ends with 2 sides (opted for the Collard Greens and the Smoked Mac n Cheese) and the Brisket w/ the Smoked Mac n Cheese. The Burnt Ends were tender yet burnt and crispy where it needed to be. They were good even without the bbq sauces available (Spicy and Medium). The spicy had a zing to it which I loved. My husband was all over the Mac n Cheese but I loved the Collard Greens which had a little kick to it. BTW, there is no table service as they operate out of a counter BUT, there are communal tables and chairs right in front where diners can enjoy the food. Definitely will be one of our favorites. (Located at the Stanley Marketplace.) Quick, friendly service but non-stop customer flow and being new, don't know how long people will know about them.

Didn’t think I’d find decent bbq this far north. I was wrong. I’ve had bbq all over the country, this is up there with some of the best. Burnt ends were smokey and tender, the ribs had the correct amount of bark and good smoke. The spicy links were excellent also. Now, the collard greens...I’ve never had better. Seriously. They weren’t sloppy or over cooked. Perfect texture and just a little heat. The sauces were on the sweeter side but still good. Might i suggest a mustard or vinegar based sauce just to round things out? Super friendly staff. You guys won me over! When I’m back in town, I’ll be eating here.
