My partner and I spend $35 on takeout from Strings Ramen in Aurora. We paid $17 for yakisoba with veggies and 1/2 extra noodle. Upon receiving the dish we were extremely disappointed by the taste; way too much oil, way too much salt (made you need to drink water) and lack of vegetables. See photo: The piece of tofu is what I added to the dish at extra cost.
We went back in after they were less busy and asked about getting a refund after explaining how badly made the dish was especially at a high price point. I was calm and tried to explain thoroughly. I even mentioned that we were not trying to be a pain or rude or a “Karen”.
There was some back and forth with the server being a middle man for the manager. They were very reluctant to refund and argued that we ate all the vegetables (that never came on the dish) so we must have liked it (the dish was still full). I had a rebuttal for their rebuttal and finally the manager came out to speak with us directly. Photo of the food when we brought it back to the restaurant attached below.
When the manager Orecca came out she seemed upset probably from the back and forth, and said that because they couldn’t honor a substitution request I had made that I must be back trying to get free stuff because “I’m upset” which is very presumptuous.. That wasn’t the case, however. I wasn’t upset until the interaction with the manager. She was not empathetic or even took this as an area for the company to grow and evolve in a better direction. Sometimes things happen and we get that but it seemed like we were being punished for saying the truth about their food quality.
She finally decided to give us a punch card for a free ramen dine in only. At that point I wasn’t too keen on coming back. I had the punch card in hand and she said she needs my receipt. I said ok “I’ll go to my car and get it” and she said “ok give me back the punch card then til you come back”. So my impression is that she had very little trust in me and probably had bad experiences in the past. I said “that’s ridiculous” and did not agree. My partner stayed there so I was going to come back regardless. She was also making kind of a scene in front of customers which was honestly humiliating - especially because two customers I knew and were watching.
Overall, I went home and cried because I felt cheated out of my money and on top of that had to endure humiliation and a terrible experience at Strings Ramen Aurora. My intent wasn’t to be a burden and I would have accepted “no” if I was treated with compassion, understanding, and empathy.
I am writing this so a) you are informed about this situation b) I still feel like the terrible experience is warranted a refund. Originally I was just asking for the dish but after the terrible interaction, I would honestly be happy with a full refund. If not, the $17 refund for the dish would suffice. I just dislike knowing that my hard earned money (I am not rich and don’t eat out often - it’s a luxury to us) supported such a nasty...
Read moreMy husband and I made our first visit on a cold and rainy Thursday in December. We arrived at 5:00 and there was seating available. The inside is warm and inviting with modern lighting, light wood dining tables, high tops, low tops, and booths. A cozy ambience was created via silky female jazz singer's music. Other reviews mentioned a server named Joshua and I knew as he approached that it was him. He's friendly and knowledgeable. He was attentive without being intrusive for our entire meal. He has a cheerful demeanor and happily answered all of our questions. We sat at a two top and were served ice water immediately. As it was our first visit, we asked his recommendation for a starter. He suggested the fried dumplings with pork, that come with a side of spicy mayo sauce. They were delicious and the sauce was a perfect compliment. I ordered tonkatsu with pork belly, my husband ordered the black garlic and sesame tonkatsu with pork belly and a side of the level two hell sauce. He enjoys spicy food, and the level two had him sweating. He said it was the perfect edge of spicy and heat without sacrificing flavor. The servings were beyond generous, the pork belly had a wonderful flavor. The food received four stars because the pork belly could have been a little more tender and the eggs were just slightly overcooked. I've read other reviews where people complained that the pork was falling apart. We've had ramen many times in other parts of the country, and the pork in my opinion should do just that. Normally it's seasoned for up to 48 hours. Nonetheless, it had a charred crust with very good flavor. My husband and I agree that the option of ordering additional noodles is completely unnecessary, we could barely finish what we had been given. All in all it was a great experience and we would...
Read moreWe have come here quite a bit over the last few years. We really enjoy it and it is one of my places to go for ramen, as I had been to their Archer location when living in the city.
Our service was great on this visit until we got to the end. We ordered two orders of extra noodles to go and they were understandably busy on a Sunday.
Everything was boxed up and we walked out to leave after I had used the restroom while my wife had settled the bill.
I thought my bag felt a little light and so I checked and did not have the two orders of noodles. We were already in the parking lot.
We walked back in and talked to George, who was apologetic and understanding. He directed us to the back counter where we spoke with Destiny. I asked if she was the manager and she informed me she was the shift lead in an exasperated tone. I informed her we had ordered two orders of noodles and did not receive them.
She said they were very busy but offered no apology and bristled when I said that we were already in the parking lot when we noticed the noodles were forgotten. We had to walk back in and talk to George and then her to get them. She said that they were not forgotten and that we had made a mistake. She bagged up the noodles and we left.
We have always had such a great experience there and have interacted with her more than a few times. A simple apology would have gone a long way without the tone that came with the interaction.
Not sure we will be back with other options...
