Tacos El Metate — Restaurant in Aurora

OCTOBER 2024: I am posting on behalf of my friend unfortunately becuase she invited us and she did not know we disliked this place. and she is disgusted!! 🤢 She bought menudo for 4 of us oh my we felt so bad.WE ALL THREW IT AWAY. IT SMELLS SO BAD. They did not clean the tripe the right way! You could smell the stench and if you have to put lime when you sell it! then your doing it WRONG AND NOT CLEANING IT Properly! One of the secrets restaurants uses lime in the food like tacos or menudo is becuase they try to cover up what they did wrong or old food! theres a reason restaurants put lime on the side. But if your doing it beforehand thats a bad sign RUN. Also they NEVER take responsibilty ever! My co worker who I was so surprised told me she used to help them out and work for them and she literally said to me dont eat there they are horrible. And they NEVER take responsibility UPDATE October 2023: So I tried the tacos del alpastor they were GROSS hard grainy and lime flavor and salty I have a feeling it was old meat. Tacos de lengua very good and fish tacos as well tried one shrimp taco they are stingy lol one shrimp in the tacos get the fish taco instead the birria tacos were pretty good the meat in the middle was HUGE chunks they for to chop it I guess. but Tacos del alpastor is just wrong thats not alpastor at all. We waited 30mintues for 9 tacos! 🫣 the worst part is saw 2 couples come in after we sat down 20mintues past ok so then at 30mintues mark they got their food! Thats when i got up I noticed people were receiving their orders OUT OF ORDER! the young lady checked and they forgot?!?! its like the kitchen was doing orders not in order?! More than 30 for alpastor tacos that are not fresh pulling them out from heated bins and its taking that long. Not ok.

I don't know what happen to this place I used go A LOT! But the last three times have been super BAD. First my carne asada fries they got the order wrong twice! And to make it worse my fries were SWIMMING in cheese like as in my fries were know a puree like mash potatoes! i dont what happen there. Last night I went with my kids and ordered 4 asada tacos 2 shrimp tacos and 2 fish tacos. When I ordered my food I specifically told the nice your lady at the register that I was allergic to fish and I needed the fish and shrimp tacos in their own container, she agreed that it was no problem. When it was time for me to receive my order, they were not labeled and i asked the young lady to check and make sure which one was fish and which one was shrimp. The young lady asked two people in the back to make sure to confirm the shrimp ones and the fish ones. The young lady who originally took my order asked them to make sure before I left that they were the right ones. When I got home to enjoy my tacos ALL FOUR TACOS WERE FISH, BEFORE I COULD EVEN TAKE A BITE I COULD SMELL THE FISH. I asked my daughter which one she had eaten and she said fish. I called up to the store to let them know how this is a very serious problem because I am severely allergic to fish and I could have died if I would have just trusted them and eaten the fish tacos. I asked the nice young lady on the phone if I could just come tomorrow and get a replacement or my money back . The very nice young lady stated her manager told her that I needed to bring the tacos back within the next 10 min or I couldn't get my money back because she believed her cook was not lying when she said she checked and made sure that all of the tacos were not fish. This is ridiculous I am being punished for a mistake that I didn't make and for maybe $6 worth of tacos. The only reason I am leaving one star is because I am unable to leave no stars for them. I have ordered here a few times and have tried several different things. Most of the food is really tasty, but the execution lacks. The pescado tacos are the best I've ever had, the beans are also fantastic. But the execution can ruin the food. I ordered fries and they were bairly cooked, I had to cook them in my air frier for another 5 minutes. They were so under cooked they still had that crunch from being frozen. They also had zero salt on them. The chips are sometimes perfect sometimes way over cooked and with no salt either. The guacamole would be great but it's 50% onions and is hard to eat because it tastes so strongly of onions. Sometimes you get the avocado stems in your food. The tortas are great but again, the assembly lacks. The one I got today had one huge chunk of queso fresco on the edge, it was like they didn't even try to make it nice. Normally it wouldn't be a problem but with all the other issues I have had with them it felt note worthy. This place could be a go to for me, but I don't think I can continue to spend 30$+ when I don't know what I will...
