Chose this place off of the Google list of nearby donut shops and even though it was about 10-12 miles out of my way, it was worth the visit. The store is in a standalone shop within a shopping center, but faces the main street and is clearly visible at a distance. The exterior was tidy, but the store front was only somewhat welcoming. The store front could use a little help or freshen up as it's a little dated. Nothing major and even if it was left alone, it's the product and service that shines. Once inside, I was greeted by positive and upbeat attitudes from the 2 workers which is always a good thing to happen to you in the morning. The inside was a little nostalgic, but typical for a donut shop and they have a little seating area as a convenience for the customers. They had a good selection of donuts with classics and some specialty ones. The donut and cinnamon roll I purchased were very fresh and had great flavor. The dough is slightly chewy which is my personal preference in yeast raised donuts so I really appreciated the texture. The glazing covered the donut instead of smothering or drowning it and it stayed on the donut well while eating it. The cinnamon roll had an ample amount of cinnamon (without overpowering it) and had good steady flavor throughout. The coffee was hot and fresh and was a mild to medium roast that had an enjoyable flavor that didn't change much as time elapsed. It also stayed hot for a very long time so the cup and jacket this place uses is aces. There were also other items on the menu so there are options here as well. All in all it appears to be a well run establishment and if you're passing by or even if you have to go a little out of the way, this place probably will not disappoint you...
Read moreI won’t be returning to Winchell’s Donuts after the experience my family and I had. My husband has praised this shop for a few months now , sharing memories of great service and delicious donuts he would bring home to us, so I was excited to come with him and our kids, I’m disabled and typically can’t make it out the house often. Unfortunately, our visit was nothing like what he described.
It was a Saturday morning, the man who claimed to be the current owner, and said his father was the original owner, was incredibly rude and off-putting. From the moment we walked in, the energy was rushed and aggressive. My husband told me of a man who spoke kindly and addressed our children and had patience with them when choosing donuts so I looked forward to a nice experience. but this man, He spoke to us in a tone that felt unnecessarily harsh, which made me and my kids feel uncomfortable this was not the service my husband remembered. The whole experience was unpleasant for me and my kids, leaving us all disappointed.
As for the donuts, they were just okay. The strawberry-filled donut, in particular, didn’t taste like what we remember. There was a noticeable inconsistency in quality, which only added to the overall dissatisfaction.
Between the poor customer service, bad energy, and inconsistent donuts, this place has lost us as customers. It’s a shame, but we’ll have to find a new donut shop. I hope the owner takes a look at how they treat people because this isn’t how you keep loyal customers...
Read moreI’m proud to say that I have been faithfully coming to this Wenchell’s donuts since 1978! I remember coming here on Saturday mornings with my mother and my friends, after I’ve had a sleepover. Wenchell’‘s donuts have been a part of my life for 50 years and I am definitely better for it! One of my favorite things about Winchell is their old-fashioned donut, and as a First Nations member of the Shawnee Indians, I can tell you that Donuts have been a part of our history in America, much longer than people think! And the recipe that Winchell ‘s has is, hands-down, the best American donut recipe in the entire world! That being said. Other than The proprietor protected recipes that go along with this amazing brand, the current owner of this establishment is a classless jerk. Every time I go in, instead of a smile, I’m given an rude look, a stern agitated tone of voice and completely dismissive customer service. I thought it was just me, but last night I was in the shop with a man and his children, and they were just as offended by his manarisms. I feel sad that an American classic has been taken over by a malignant narcissist too entitled to honor customers, and the American legacy that he’s been given that’s allow his family to prosper…. Owners like this are ruining the culture of Class customer respect and kindness that we have developed in American. It’s with great sadness that I advise people to go to a different donut shop until this...
