Update: We went back and had some awesome food! The chorizo taco was very good and borderline too hot (perfect) with the charred habanero sauce. The tuna ceviche was impressive and at an excellent price point (it looked small when it came out, but it was perfect imo). We had several other hot sauces (complimentary, thanks!) that were very good in different ways. The charred habanero is green, spicy as hell, and doesn't overtly taste like habanero to me so it must be subtle but still great. I think my favorite is the serano lime, but I want to try the others.
The complimentary chips/salsa is always appreciated, though I'm not personally a huge fan of sweet salsas. Added heat from one of the sauces made it better, but still a little too sweet for us.
Bumping the review to 4/5 for the awesome food and improved sauce experience. Would be a 5 but the service and kitchen was slow, even with only half the tables occupied. Our server informed us it was his first night, so that's totally forgivable if still a little disappointing he wasn't trained first; each item seemed to take 1-2 minutes to find on his tablet. Otherwise he was excellent and friendly, but it seems worth noting. It took an agonizingly long time to get the food. The apps and tacos came out together, at what I think was close to 30 min after ordering (felt like 60). Hopefully this will improve after the "soft-opening" because we plan to visit yo momma's all the time if it does!
Welcome to Aurora Yo Mommas! Keep it up and see you soon!
Original review: Was excited to try this new spot near our home. We had the chips and salsa (complementary), pork nachos, a birria taco, and a pork pibil taco.
Overall it wasn't bad. What was disappointing is that it was all way too mild (except perhaps the pork pibil). This ordinarily wouldn't be an issue except there is literally no way to spice it up without paying. I asked for just a few drops of hot sauce, even asked for "something like tapatio?" and was advised there was none but was shown the "Flight of hot sauce" for $5.50 and the 3 other salsa options for $6 each.
The food was good, but unless you like zero spice consider bringing a little bottle of hot sauce or be prepared to pay a premium for any heat. For the price and lack of any free way to spice up the extremely mild food I probably wouldn't eat here again,...
Read moreFinally got to try this place out on a Tuesday night. It was not too busy, but I think the wait staff was short staffed. Chips and salsa arrived shortly after we sat served with a pitcher of water. The chips are tasty along with some good salsa, a little thicker with hints of garlic, and cilantro. I always like it hotter, but I know not everyone does. We did enjoy the salsa. Our waitress was really nice, but either very new or overwhelmed. It took a bit to order, but I totally get it. We got 3 birra tacos and the Yo Momma's Cuban with fries. We did finish our chips well before our food arrived, never offered any more while we were waiting. When the food arrived it looked awesome. The 3 tacos were stuffed with a good portion of birria which was just like I expect it, tender and tasty. Good seasoning and nice amount of cheese. I was offered beans and rice as an extra side, but I stuck to the ala cart tacos. The cuban was super tender well seasoned with a good quality bread looking like a baguette. The fries were seasoned fries cooked crispy and perfect. I was not expecting a cantina to have such good fries. It took awhile for our waitress to come ask us if we wanted refills. I did get one just before I finished eating. We sat a long time waiting for our check. The hostess finally came over and asked us if we needed anything. I asked her for a box for our leftovers. I could have asked her to get our check, but after such a good meal I was patient to wait. The waitress finally came over and apologized for taking such a long time and being "clunky". That is why I am guessing she may have been new. As far as the bill, the price is what I would expect to pay for a sit down restaurant. I have heard people in the area criticize their prices for being too expensive. This is not a cheap taqueria with $3-$4 tacos, it is a nice sit down place to have a meal. I will return again to try the yummy food. I am hoping the service will be a bit better. All in all this place is pretty awesome. Thank you Yo...
Read moreUpdated 11/27/24: we have had 2 good experiences here so far prior to our visit on 11/26. But OMG our visit on 11/26 was terrible! First off, it was a Tuesday night, not busy at all, and we waited about 5 minutes before anyone greeted us at the front to seat us. Then, we were given our menus and had to flag the hostess down 5 minutes later for drink menus….Then, 5 more minutes go by, then another 5….literally sat for nearly 20 minutes with nobody ever coming by to take our order. Not even greet us with a “hey, so sorry we will be right with you”, Nada. Nothing. The waiters walked by several times without even acknowledging us. I was SO BUMMED. I came here with my family for my birthday and unfortunately decided to leave after nobody helping us. Big bummer because the last few times we came here it was good. When we left, I ran into one of the waitresses and said we were leaving because nobody seemed to be working our table, and her response was, “oh we can help you now”….like what?? Why didn’t you help us 20 minutes ago? Real weird. ———————————————————— (First review) We are so excited to have a good sit down restaurant in our neighborhood!! Our family came here tonight for happy hour and dinner, and everything about it was wonderful. The food, service, drinks…all amazing. Our waitress, Christina, was fabulous! She made sure our kids were content with coloring pages and crayons, and our kids never complained while we enjoyed our margaritas. Speaking of their margaritas….wow. I’m from San Diego and am used to having some good margaritas, but these were top notch. I especially liked their pomegranate margarita, Marisol Marg. So so good. Loved their tacos too! My favorite was the quesabirilla taco. Please check this place out, you won’t be disappointed!! We will be...
