Barista was extremely rude- he placed one of our drinks on the counter (we ordered a cold brew) and called it out. We were asked a name for the order at the register but he wasn't using the names and wasn't speaking very loudly or looking up when he spoke so it was hard to catch if it was our order or not. Other people were hesitant to take drinks too. It was all a little confusing, so I walked up, pointed to the drink he had just placed and politely asked "What was this one again?" Without looking in my direction he replied "It's coffee" Really sarcastic tone, like I was bugging him by asking. I was taken aback but "coffee" didn't really clarify whether it was my drink or not so I asked "cold brew?" And got back "it's iced coffee, they're the same thing". Same disdainful tone. I don't expect service workers to bend over backwards for unreasonable requests or take verbal abuse from customers, but a simple question? His reaction was super hostile and completely unjustified. Plus, he apparently doesn't know the difference between cold brew and iced coffee??? And is working as a barista in a coffee shop? That just screams "I don't want to deal with you"
I really want to like this place. Just treat people with the bare minimum...
Read moreI found this place on Yelp while on a mission to find a place with delicious desserts that I could could grab and go. This was the perfect place! Even though I went there in the afternoon, the bakery cases (yes, cases!) were full of an amazing variety of delicious goodies. I went in there looking to get one dessert and left with a bagful. I got a mocha mini cupcake, Nutella thumbprint cookies, a chocolate twist, snickerdoodle, chocolate eclair and a sugar cinnamon bun. Everything was so yummy and the portions are great. My mother told me she meant to have a piece of the snickerdoodle as a pre-dinner snack, but instead ate the whole thing and was too full for dinner :) I can't wait to go back and stuff my face with more of their treats. The Covid precautions here are really good - there is curbside pickup, no indoor dining, there are markers on the floor to keep customers 6 feet apart and hand sanitizer by the door. There are tables and chairs outside for outdoor dining. BTW: Last year, I got Thanksgiving cookies from their other location and they were the perfect decor piece. And they were really tasty, even several days after...
Read moreI cannot recommend this place (Menchaca) if you're looking for respectful treatment. I ordered a hot cocoa but received a cold chocolate milk instead. When I approached the barista to inquire about reheating it, I felt dismissed and met with a condescending look. Despite standing in front of the counter, my concerns were ignored until the barista reluctantly asked what I needed. I requested the drink to be heated, explaining my preference for hot cocoa. However, I was informed they lacked a microwave, and the only option was to make a new one.
Feeling frustrated, I accepted the cold drink and left. This experience left me dissatisfied, especially considering the price. I advise caution if you expect your hot drinks to be served as such.
Additionally, I couldn't help but notice differential treatment. While the barista was courteous to others, I felt a lack of friendliness that seemed to be based on my appearance. I do not recommend this place, particularly if you're Hispanic and in your 40's, unless you conform to a certain look. Discrimination has no place in customer service, and it's disappointing to...
