I walk my cat here each week in this well-kept and under-utilized park.

There are some quiet spots with lots of shade and dozens of park benches and picnic tables to choose from.

•If you enjoy BBQing, there's plenty of grills •If you enjoy a swim, visit late spring thru summer and enjoy the well-maintained pool for $3 •There's a lovely pavillion for gatherings at the very back of the park •There's a BBall court here (shh! keep it on the low) •Runners & Dog walkers know there's lots of even gravel trails across the park •You could probably find a spot to do yoga or tai chi uninterrupted (there's even some bamboo on the side of the park furthest from the High School along the side road) •The big draw is the children's jungle gym with swings, slides and play structures •There is ample parking in the front and at the very back of the park •Riders- there's a few places you could lock up your bike, or tie up your horse, at the front entrance nearer to the pool. •This is a dog-friendly park, BUT Please remember to keep your dogs on-leash when visiting...

The one downside to this park is that some irresponsible pet owners let their dogs off leash too frequently here, despite there being 2 relativity close off leash parks in the area (FYI: closest one I believe is off 1st and Slaughter).

There are also facilities and water fountains, but they appear unavailable at this time. You can use the portapotties but remember to bring your own water when...

Lovely not-known (don't tell anyone unless they are 'cool' ) bigger than your neighborhood park --- park.., a forest of modest mostly live oaks frosts the east facing gentle hillside from Menchaca (enter just south of Stassney) to the UP rail tracks. Pick your bench/ spot/ picnic table (rt now preferably in the shade) and listen (too many trees to see) to the sometimes back to back UP trains or S-bound round-about 6 pm = Amtrak.

Garrison is a park to walk your dog, walk with your best, safely entertain your kiddos, or just while away a couple hours of agenda-free time.

Note the s-side mid-park neighborhood connection to "Parkside" get's you lolligag style thru the hood (past grandmother's house and thru the -more - woods..., look for the goats and longhorns) to William Cannon. Pro-tip = half-day adventure is this ^ plus 'hippie highway' (Emerald Forest) back north to Williamson Creek and under UP trestle and back to Garrison Park (def a lolligag and also...

Garrison Park is a spacious and well-maintained park located in Austin, Texas. It offers a variety of amenities, including a swimming pool, sports fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas. The park is a popular spot for families and individuals looking to enjoy outdoor activities and relax in a natural setting. The swimming pool is a great place to cool off during the hot Texas summers, and the sports fields are perfect for soccer, baseball, and other team sports. The playgrounds are well-equipped and provide a safe and fun environment for children. The park also has plenty of open spaces and shaded areas, making it ideal for picnics and leisurely walks. Overall, Garrison Park is a great place to spend a day outdoors and enjoy the beautiful...

Lots of trees so it's well shaded. Even on a 90+degree day I still feel comfortable bringing my 2 year old here. It's well maintained by the city and trash gets picked up regularly. I just wish people would leash their dogs. Many times we've come and there are dogs running lose. I'm a dog person, and my son loves dogs too, but mixing children and animals can get unpredictable, so why not go to an actual dog park? Despite this, the park is great. There are always families and birthday parties going on. Just look at these photos. It's so nice. We have seen homeless sleeping in the corners of the park occasionally, but it's Austin. Not too much you can do about that these days. Everybody just minds their own business and enjoys the trees.

Great neighborhood park with beautiful surrounding trees!! Lots of shady spots to lay out and chill without the crowds at Zilker. We bring our dog here all the time for walks and jogs. We play catch, fetch, and frisbee. There's a public pool although right now it's closed and there's no water. There's a playground as well. There's also tennis courts you can use when there aren't students using them from the high school, because I think technically, the tennis courts are on school grounds.

Great small park with walking or biking trails, playground, BBQ pits, trash & recycle cans restrooms, picnic tables and benches throughout. Basketball court Not very crowded except for special holidays. Lots of dogs and owners present. Swimming pool open in the summer. Covered pavilion for parties. Plenty of space to play!! Ride CapMetro route 3 drops off right in front!!
