We ordered food twice during the lockdown. First time was great and fast despite the lack of employees. Second time we went It was a disaster. Our food was great though. So I did the online order instead of calling it in like I did before. Said it would be ready in 20 minutes and I was very surprised because last time it took an hour but we didn’t leave the house until right at an hour so we didn’t wait long for our pick up. So we get there and followed the instructions. We waited an hour and 15 before I decided to call them and ask what’s up? I was super nice because I saw how busy they were. So I called and I said “I understand you’re busy but we were told it’d be 20 minutes do you know about how much longer?” And the lady just went off and said she can’t tell me a time and they didn’t have enough staff and hung up on me. I waited another HOUR before I called again! I was extremely patient and at this point it was past closing time. My bf called this time and guess what?!same lady and she was super nice to him and apologized and turned out all the online orders were not going through so they had to start over? I think they honestly forgot about us. She didn’t even try to look for my order when I called. She acted as if I had been constantly calling them. Over 2 hours patiently waiting. Anyways, we used to come here all the time because it’s down the street but after this specific encounter we are never coming back again. I know they don’t care and that’s fine but I had to say something because it was really unprofessional to hang up on...
Read moreI come to this location at least once a week. It's a long standing go to place among our group of friends for dinner. I also work and live near here so I come here even more so for those reasons. I love the Wednesday special, Hatch Green Chili Chicken Enchilada. It's so good, but sometimes it's very spicy, it's a risk you have to be willing to take. I love chips and queso so it's hard for me to come here and not get that though. The chips are the good thin and warm kind. Some times you will get a cold batch but I just tell the server for another. They are also known for their creamy jalapeno dip as well. I'm not particularly a fan of the salsa though, it's very chunky, not my thing. If it's not Wednesday, then I get the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
They have a great Happy Hour, that I'm sure most people take advantage of, they have a chip bar out of the trunk of a car. It's pretty awesome, I rarely go to Happy Hour here though.
There is indoor and outdoor seating, they typically try to cater to the weather for the outdoor seating, so it's not so terrible during the summer. It does get crowded during lunch and a lot at dinner as well. There can be a bit of a wait. The parking lot is semi annoying as well. I find that all Chuy's have terrible parking lots here in Austin, the spots are super narrow for Texas sized trucks or regular size cars. The spots are tiny in the middle of the parking lot, the outer spots tend to be...
Read moreOn my visit tonight, followed their proceedures, restaurant wasn't busy, my food was ready, but no one was running take out orders to the cars. Frustrated by the wait and lack of food delivery, I along with 3 other customers went inside to get our orders, only to find multiple, 3 or 4, staff members doing NOTHING. Several sitting down having causal conversation with each other, while the Manager is 10 feet away.
Stayed to talk with mgr. He was talking at a table, looked up during a break in conversation, saw me waiting on him and re-engaged with the table... .
I've been a loyal Chuy's customer for over 30 years. It's obvious that the Passion and Customer Service of the founders is disappearing, if not outright gone. Sad to see the decline.
Feel free to reach out to me if you would like additional details or a conversation.
-2017- CHUY's so good they went national, but it all started here...
