Chinatown Center — Local services in Austin

I have been a loyal customer of your store for over a year. I’ve always appreciated the service and products, but a recent experience has left me extremely disappointed and disheartened.

About a week ago, I purchased several items from your store. Since there were too many, I decided to return a few. When I came back to the store to return them, there were staff members at the counter, but none of them offered to help. They just looked at me and did nothing. I politely explained, “I don’t need this item anymore. Please take it back—you don’t even need to refund me.” Yet, no one responded or took action.

Even though I had lost the invoice, I showed them the transaction details from the debit card I used for the purchase. Still, they neither accepted the return nor gave me any assistance. To make matters worse, the security guard there behaved in a way that felt rude and aggressive, which was very upsetting for me.

As someone who has trusted your store for a long time, this treatment was very hurtful. In the end, I had no option but to throw the item away. After this experience, I’ve lost my trust and don’t plan to return to your store.

I sincerely hope you take this complaint seriously and make improvements in your customer service...

This has been one of my favorite places to go growing up. My mom and I had not been in at least 5 years, if not longer. Everything was so different! Yet completely the same. The produce selection seems bigger and cleaner, there's actual walking space now, it looks like where the bathrooms used to be has made the meat section even bigger, and it really just seems more organized than ever. We thoroughly enjoyed shopping there again (our entire grocery basket was filled to prove it). Another thing, I'm not sure if it's just because I'm older and more observant, but most everything was in English as well as whatever language the product was. Don't worry about not being able to speak the language. You'll have fun just looking at all the things you've never seen before and trying new foods. It's also a great place to take the kids. There's tons of live fish and lobsters to look at. If you do end up going I recommend eating at First Chinese BBQ. They have been my families fave for years. They did not disappoint this time either. If your not terribly adventurous with your foods, I suggest getting any of the fried rice and the crispy chicken lemongrass. Oh my, it was so unbelievably good (or we were just that hungry). Chinatown Center lives up to its namesakes throughout many American cities by providing a broad sampling of Asian mercantile culture. Stores sell herbs, videos, music, and all sorts of imports. Beauty shops cater to the preferences of Asian--inspired glamour. As for restaurants, I confess so far I've tried only TC Noodle House and Korean Grill because they're so good that I've gotten fixated on them, and it's hard to move on to so many other enticing restaurants in this one big commercial center. There are bakeries and sandwich shops I'm eager to try. MT Supermarket is vast and probably the biggest Asian market in Austin, and its shelves are brimming with food and cookware from all over East Asia. Personal services range from travel agencies to beauty parlors, nail salons, and investment counseling. The strip mall is largely an American concept, but at Chinatown Center it is possible to explore half a continent in food and product.
