Dumpling World is a delightful find that I stumbled upon on a quiet Thursday evening. The restaurant is clean, and the service is impressively fast, making it a convenient choice for a quick yet satisfying meal. Despite the challenging parking situation, the dining experience inside more than made up for it.
We began our meal with the Shrimp Fried Rice, which set the tone for the evening. The smoky wok flavor was present in every bite, with the egg cooked to perfection, adding a lovely texture throughout the dish. The shrimp were fresh, juicy, and the scallions were layered in just right, adding a nice sharpness. The occasional crispy rice grains provided a delightful crunch, making this dish a must-try.
Next up were the Roasted Garlic Green Beans, and they did not disappoint. The roasted garlic flavor was rich and complemented by small bits of fried pork, which added a nice depth to the dish. The seasoning was spot-on—salty with a slight tang from the soy sauce—and the beans themselves had a satisfying crunch. Visually, the vibrant green color made them look as appetizing as they tasted.
The Szechuan Tan Tan Noodles were a complex and flavorful dish that quickly became a favorite. The peanuts added a nice crunch and depth, while the chili oil brought just the right amount of heat without overpowering the other flavors. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the bits of pork added a pleasant texture. The bok choy was a surprise standout, with its slightly sour, juicy, and crunchy character tying the dish together. The flavors stayed consistent from the first bite to the last, making this an immaculate dish.
Finally, we ended with the Pan-Fried Pork Soup Buns, which were undoubtedly the star of the show. These buns were served piping hot, with the rich, slightly sweet broth trapped inside. Biting into one was like unlocking a treasure—the broth was incredibly flavorful and paired perfectly with the chewy, crispy bun. A dash of chili crunch oil elevated the flavors even further, making each bite an absolute delight. This dish alone is worth the visit.
Overall, Dumpling World delivers on all fronts—flavor, service, and atmosphere. The reasonable pricing only adds to its appeal. I left completely satisfied and look forward to returning. Whether you’re a dumpling enthusiast or just looking for a great meal, Dumpling World is a place you won’t...
Read moreI was curious about this place, especially originating from Sugarland TX where I have relatives and know it's a large Asian community (if you can make it there, you're decent). The first question I had was if this place was legit. Do they really make the dumplings in house? Or are they secretly defrosted dumplings and then heated/steamed (a majority of what you eat at dim sum is that case). The answer is yes, they are legit. You see three chefs, wearing their chinese chef's hats, wearing masks, bent over at the back rolling out wrappers and there is a heaping plate of seasoned pork for all to see. This is standard for Chinese kitchens, I was just surprised to see it out for people to see them nab the pork to put into the dumplings. I don't know if the health inspector might have anything to say about that. Anyway, I over-ordered (for one) to get a sample and take the rest home. I got the green beans (many restaurants in town don't offer this), boiled pork/shrimp dumplings and fried pork and chive dumplings (my ultimate favorite). They lived up to the expectations. What was odd was I was looking for the dumpling dipping sauce (a mixture of rice vinegar and soy) and they had two dispensers. One say "Soy Sauce" and the other did not. By experimentation, and after using just pure soy sauce, did I deduce the other was the soy-vinegar mixture. They don't have a dedicated Austin web site and menu yet. When you get to the restaurant, they hand you a menu that has a sticker on top saying "soft opening". But yeah, I can recommend this...
Read moreWhoever wrote this place gets four or more stars has never been to an authentic Chinese dumpling place, is a bot or a friend of the management. This is a DUMP-ling on all levels. Let's start with the food: what my friend and I ordered for the table.
Fried rice with pork, shrimp and veggies. The pork had cartilage, so most pieces were bone. There were only 3 shrimp and not jumbo, 3. Yup, you read it correctly, and the rice was either a day old or left outside as it was hard and cold. There were no veggies except for some green onion and the proverbial egg. Disgusting. No taste at all.
Then the tan-tan noodles otherwise known as jia jai mein noodles. Nowhere on the menu was it listed this was a COLD noodle dish. The bok choy was also cold! No, something is wrong there as usually the way to make this dish is NOT with bok choy but with cucumber.
We ordered steamed dumplings filled with sweet potatoes and chicken curry but they brought out the wrong dumplings which smelled god awful, sour. When our order finally came at least 20 minutes later the dough was too thin and fell apart which is definitely not supposed to happen. There was a bland flavor to it, meaning no flavor.
The server was rude and annoyed that we gave back the dishes and didn't bother to apologize or return to our table. She sent another young woman in her place.
The place is falling apart and is relatively scuzzy. A cleaner came by to clean another table as we ate with this gross cleaning cart during the middle of...
