UPDATED REVIEW FROM VISIT 6/7/2025
Well I feel compelled to update my original review from over 5 years ago. Fortunately we are beyond the COVID restriction era, and a small group of us were able to return for an incredible in-person meal on 6/7/25.
Yes, the food is still amazing. Best steak you can find anywhere in my opinion at any price. Great sides. Nice portions. Not inexpensive and I can't afford to eat there frequently, but for what you get I will argue it is a very good value.
So the amazing part I want to elaborate on is this: my small party of 4 had one person who is battling impossible odds of overcoming an aggressive cancer diagnosis. Quite frankly, the reality is time is quite limited for this dear family friend, and we chose Eddy V's as a special location to have a special meal celebrating all things in friendship and life.
From the initial reservation to a tearful goodbye, the staff treated us like family and made the occasion absolutely special, with decorations and surprises that delighted us. To have such a special evening was priceless. We will never forget it, and years down the road, even when our dear friend is no longer with us, we will smile and know we had some great memories, including one very special occasion meal at Eddy V's.
So we are customers for life, period. Thank you to Eddy V's staff. This meant everything to us.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: CORONAVIRUS EDITION
My wife and I had a reservation to celebrate our anniversary, and unfortunately this whole CV thing happened and all restaurants are basically closed for dining in, including Eddie V's. We decided to see if they would do a to-go order, and sure enough they came through for us. They took our order, had it boxed up nice and hot on time, threw in the fixins (bread, even a dessert we hadn't ordered but included as a customer thank-you I suppose), and wow the steaks were still the best we have ever had, no different than dining in.
It was obvious when we arrived to pick up the food that the staff was down to Seth (the manager) and a chef, both scrambling and working their hardest to fulfill orders for a few customers. They run a tight ship, and I have full confidence that they handle and prepare their food carefully and with minimal handling. They also mentioned they are working on an updated to-go menu, which will have more traditional items (burgers, etc). So PLEASE do consider picking up food orders during this difficult time, because we need to support our local businesses where we can, and you also are going to still get an incredible meal (even if you take it home).
In summary, Eddie V's continues to wow customers, and I hope to have a lifetime of future visits (to-go in the short term, and dining in eventually). Thank you to Seth and his cook for keeping things going - please give them some much needed business - we all win...
Read moreEddie V's has been a staple of fine dining for many years. We celebrated my father's 94th birthday at the Arboretum location and it could not have been any better. The table location was perfect and the server Rodger was the best! Now for the meal itself, Appetizers were a beet salad and lobster bisque soup. The beet salad was over proportioned in a very good way. To be honest, it was the biggest serving of goat cheese I have ever seen and I had no idea that beets grew in different colors! The lobster bisque was extraordinary! It was perfectly balanced with lobster, butter and seasoning. I could have had that alone. The main courses consisted of a perfectly grilled filet mignon (I am talking PERFECT!) These filets were supposed to be 10 oz but I beg to differ because either I've lost my "steak sizing" ability or as I suspect, they were heavier than 10 ozs by a long shot. The filets were each grilled to a particular finish and all four were exactly finished as requested. The filets at times literally melted in your mouth. I highly suggest the lobster topping .you will not be disappointed. Now for the sides, a word of caution, the sides are more than enough for 4 people. The regular mashed potatoes were hot, fluffy and homemade of course. The grilled carrots were just plain fantastic. The asparagus was prepared to the point I started liking it lol! The brussel sprouts... oh the glorious brussel sprouts... simply amazing, perfectly charred, seasoned and the exact amount of oil / balsamic vinegar so that they never got soggy even after sitting close to an hour. The surprise birthday chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce was a wonderful touch to a perfect meal. My dad is not big on chocolate but it was fun to watch him really enjoying it. Not overly sweet but it had a rich chocolate taste that was extremely good. This special occasion was more than was expected and our server Rodger was on point throughout the meal. It takes a knowledgeable, experienced person to know when and what the table party may or may not need. Rodger knows exactly how to "read" the dinner party and make the dining experience go off without a hitch. All-in-all, a wonderful experience for a special occasion. It's good to know that some things in Austin haven't changed in quality. Thank you Eddie V's and especially Rodger for making my dad's 94th birthday a...
Read more6/15/21 Disappointing experience. Came to Eddie V's Arboretum location yesterday for my birthday. We had a reservation and it was notated it was for a birthday. They sat us in the quieter area to the side which was nice. Our waiter (Matthew) was very attentive and nice as we got there. After pouring me a couple red wines to decide from, he asked if we'd like to hear the chef specials. We were still a little full from lunch so we told him we were just going to have some apps, oysters, and drinks. He immediately changed his tone "Oh...okay". This is where the quality of his service decreased. We ordered the kung pao calamari, steak tartare, half dozen oysters, and red wine. After our food came out Matthew is nowhere to be found. Another waiter came by to help us a couple of times who was very nice and I wish I remembered his name to give kudos. We ordered a couple additional oysters from our new waiter since Matthew seemed to not care for our table anymore. Matthew came to greet the table next to us and I heard him discuss oysters that were not on the menu...isn't that what we were ordering?? Maybe we weren't good enough to hear about them since we are seemingly peasants not ordering dinner. No one comes to Eddie V's because they 'can't afford it'. Matthew brought out a 'birthday treat' for me...likely because it was already prepared so why not? Seemed as though it had been under a heat lamp for a minute so that's my guess. We don't see Matthew at all for a good minute...we just wanted to check out. FINALLY comes by to bring our check...we paid partially with a $100 gift card I had bought my husband a few months back...still our money not a coupon. He seemed annoyed by us having this gift card and still disappeared when it came to taking the check and the rest of our money. I was slowly calculating deductions from his tip as he took even longer and had a poor attitude. Moral of this story...treat all of your guests the same regardless of their order choices. This was not our first time at Eddie V's but could very well be our last.
6/22/21 UPDATE a manager reached out to me regarding this issue. After gathering more info and apologizing they offered to send a gift card. It was a very nice gesture and we will give Eddie V's...
